How do you know if your LO has seasonal allergies? DS has had a persistent runny nose/congestion and cough for about 3 weeks. I thought it was a cold that just wouldn't quit but a few people have mentioned that it could be allergies. I don't have seasonal allergies but everyone else in my family does....

When he wipes his nose, does he do it with the heel of his hand and his palm facing in? Obviously it's not definitive, but my ped always said that was a sign of allergies.

Are his eyes watery? I thought LO had a cold but she was sneezing SO much and had watery eyes and a persistent cough. I don't have seasonal allergies but DH does. After a couple of weeks of this we started giving her Zyrtec before bed and now she's so much better. So I think that's what it was.

@lawbee11: I second Zyrtec.
R has a lot of allergy/eczema problems in general but this time of the year her skin, eyes, and nose are constantly giving her a problem. We do a daily dose of Zyrtec to help keep the problems at bay. Also, our allergist doesn't test this young for them because you get a lot of false results.

@Jess1483: We've trained him not to wipe his nose with his hands, lol. He just points at his nose and asks us to wipe it! That's so interesting though, I'm going to watch him extra carefully just to see if he does that!
@lawbee11: I haven't noticed his eyes being watery and he isn't sneezing a lot, just every once in a while, so that's why I'm unsure. I didn't even know they made Zyrtec for kids, I think we'll try it. Thanks!!

@petunia354: I actually wasn't able to find name brand Zyrtec in liquid form, but if you have a Walgreens near you they make a generic for children (and it's cheaper than actual Zyrtec!).

@Mrs. Taco: Does the Zyrtec help her eczema? We haven't found anything very effective yet. It's not terrible now that that it's warmer and the air isn't so dry but he still has patches. I guess I should think about seeking out an allergist!
