My mom wants to gift the in-laws a nice coffee sampler for Christmas and I'm helping her pick which one. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I'm relying purely on searches and vague recommendations.
So far, I've looked into a few Kona coffee brands (Koa, Hualalai, and Rainforest Farm). But curious to hear about other freshly roasted coffee that's available online - doesn't have to be from Hawaii.

We LOVE Blue Mountain coffee, but I have no idea if you can buy it here in the states. When we went to Jamaica we bought a couple pounds, and then our friends went to Jamaica and brought us back some more! I know it's pretty pricey, but it's to die for!!

Ethiopian coffee is my favorite! Gevalia does lots of flavored coffees that I've had (blueberry muffin was interesting but i liked it!)
I think Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee is just ok, honestly! DH and I are not blown away by it

@sugarplumsmom, honestly i buy it at trader joe's. It's $10 for a can but even when i get coffee from a coffee shop, whenever i specify ethiopian, it's GOOD

I really like Metropolis coffee out of the Chicago area. When I worked at a cupcake shop in Indiana, when we started offering coffee/espresso we did a LOT of shopping around and chose to go with them. It's pricier I believe, but delicious.
I also love Hubbard and Cravens, which I think is an Indiana brand.

Do you have a local coffee shop? There's one here where they roast beans in-house and take their coffee very seriously! It could be nice to talk to someone who could help create a little sampler. People really vary in what they like--I prefer a light roast (usually look for breakfast blends), but my husband loves the smoky, rich ones.

@cascademom: I know me too! I live in Milwaukee, so that all we heard about on the news for like a week when that happened! LOL! (we have a lot to talk about here.....) I guess Alterra is going national/global....but it was important to the company to stay local, so it's almost like they created Colectivo for that purpose. It's all the same Alterra stuff, just a different name!

@MrsBrewer: Yeah, it's just fascinating to see it go from a Milwaukee institution to a global thing with the name. At my work, we have a version of K-cups that have Alterra. I always have to remind myself that's not the Alterra I know, but the brand named stuff.

Mmm, if you ARE leaning toward Kona coffee, check out lehuulafarms.com We went to this coffee farm while on our honeymoon in Kona, it is a guy who does this as his retirement hobby and it is cheaper for the quality than other Kona coffees!! So good, now I want some!
It's online, and if you buy 5 bags, it's free shipping, so you could get a few Xmas presents out of the way if you wanted!

Intelligentsia, from Chicago, are really good. We were given a six-month subscription of 3x 1lb coffee beans per month as a wedding present and ... wow. Delicious.
Oren's in NY are good too.
