That was a terrible, terrible ending. I understand that Dan Stevens wanted to leave, etc, but seriously, that was just too much. And the trickle of blood just made it extra melodramatic!
I say Branson and Mary should get together and raise Sibby and the new baby together. And btw, are they going to name this baby after the deceased parent, too??
Too much. I'm nervous we might have just seen DA jump the shark.

I saw it coming as soon as we saw him driving but I still really didn't want it too. I just read a couple of reviews that say it will make the show better-- Mary's storylines are more interesting when she is struggling. But still, can't we just have some happiness without the sadness? I do think the show will be just fine though.

I totally agree that it was way overboard. ESPECIALLY the blood trickle! Wth. I also love the idea of Branson and Mary raising the babies together, that was my first thought!
All I can think is how dramatic and up/down this season was! Geez!!!

@Foodnerd81: true, Mary is more interesting when unhappy...it's just so sad! Especially after all that time it took for them to get together...I suppose it's only fitting then that they couldn't stay happy together. Sigh.

I ran across a spoiler two weeks ago about Dan Stevens so I knew it was coming. I have depressed about it ever since. Matthew was the best thing about DA.. What are they going to do without him. And really.. Why would you want to go anywhere else right now as an actor, if you are already on such a great show? I'm so sad.

When they killed off Sybil, I was sad. But killing off Matthew just made me angry - far angrier than I should be over something as silly as a tv show! I don't think they've jumped the shark yet, though. At least I hope they haven't. I do wish they would have come up with a different way to create that level of drama. Killing another main character almost seems lazy to me.

Unfortunately they had to because Dan Stevens was leaving. I'm not too torn up about it. I like Matthew but his character was a little boring. I was mad about Sybil though!
That's the thing about DA. I don't always like their plot lines, but that's what makes it good. It's not predictable!

Apparently a lot of TV shows in the UK don't run for a long time and being on a long running show isn't super desirable and actors often leave to pursue "bigger" careers. This, however, does not make this any less painful!
I really wish that last week would have been the season finale. It was a much lighter and happier episode with a lot of resolution. Also, did anyone else find it odd that all the other story lines in this episode fizzled out? The new housemaid messing with Branson (oh wait, she's gone)...that creepy guy wanting poor Ms. pattmore for her cooking (oh wait, he's skeezy)...The doctor and Isobel (oh wait, she is playing dumb, or is she??). And can Carson and Mrs. Hughes get together already? I think that would have softened the Matthew blow a teeny bit.
