Anyone else finish watching it? Thoughts? I don't want to post any spoilers in the first post, but after the way it ended I need more!!!

@Boogs: yes! I was really disappointed, I want more... you can't end things like that!

I said "Wait....WHAT?!?!" over and over for about two minutes. I wanted more closure! And while I was Team Logan I can't really see him being up for that.
Also I get that Melissa McCarthy was only available for a few hours of shooting but it didn't ring true that she wouldn't have been at the wedding.
Loved Paris, the musical, Lorelei "doing Wild", and Emily's arc. Basically any time they even mentioned Richard I cried.

For the first few minutes after the ending I was like, "well, that can't be it. They're totally setting us up for more episodes in the future. Yay!!" But then I remembered what she said about finally getting to have the famous "last four words" so that was always meant to be how it ended - with a major cliffhanger. Then my next thought was, I'm so glad it ended with those 4 words now and not when Rory was 22! Would have been totally different.
@erinbaderin: totally agree that everything was off for Melissa McCarthy. If they were going to have her for 1 scene it should have been a surprise appearance at the wedding, not that super awkward kitchen scene.

First of all, I literally smiled so big the entire time I watched it. It is one of my all time favorite shows, so I enjoyed being able to see the characters again.
I went in to the revival team Jess and I came out of it still team Jess, but slightly team Logan, also. The way I see it, Jess is Rory's Luke and Logan is her Christopher.
I seriously went....WHATTTTT?! With the final four words. I also tried to piece together how it would have worked if the final four words were said at the end of season 7. How things would be totally different. I think the whole point of it is to see that Rory and Lorelei came full circle and Rory ended up in a similar situation to Lorelei. Although, it would have been more similar at the end of the original series.
I guess I am definitely happy that we finally see Luke and Lorelei get married, but I wasn't necessarily a fan of the whole dancing through the garden scene before that.
All-in-all, I'm left wanting more. I would like to see where Rory ends up and what she ends up doing with her life/baby.

So many feelings!!!!
LOVED it! I thought it started off a little weird, but it may have just been me readjusting back into the show. And the musical lasted a little too long for my tastes, but I'm not really into musicals.
I love everything about Luke and Lorelei and I'm so glad they were together and ended up married! Fills my heart with so much joy!
I was kind of sad things didn't work out with Logan and Rory, especially after watching this. I really liked them in this! More than I ever did while watching the series, haha.
I liked how they ended the series open ended. It would be cool if they did another one of these with Rory dealing with a baby or toddler and living with Luke and Lorelei trying to get her life back on track. Maybe after her book is published or something!

I thought the last 4 words would be spoken by one person not short 1-2 word sentences. Doesn't seem like the final 4 words to me. Was not expecting that end!

@Adira: I agree, I liked Rory and Logan together WAYYY more in this reboot than in the series. Logan definitely showed more of his caring self in this reboot. He was her shoulder to cry on, where in the series, he was kind of flakey.
I also agree with the musical. I thought it was a bit much. I really didn't understand the significance of it. I thought we could have done completely without it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@schubr03: Yeah, I felt like the musical could have ended after the first act, but it just kept going for like TEN MINUTES! I started cleaning around the house while I was going on, haha.
I'm also really curious who's the father of Rory's baby! My bet is Jess, with that longing look he gave her through the window. But who knows! Gahhh!! I need more!!!
pomelo / 5573 posts
@Adira: I think it was pretty heavily implied that it was Logan, probably as a result of their night with the Life and Death Brigade. Logan was Rory's Christopher, and that's why she went to talk to her dad about his decision to let Lorelei raise her alone.
pomelo / 5791 posts
I loved it, though I have mixed feelings on the ending. I actually DO feel like it's an ending. They mentioned quite a few times about the circle of life and whatnot....I think it was just driving the point home that Logan = Christopher and Jess = Luke (thank God, cause I was always a die hard team Jess lol)
I just want moooooooore!
I'm wondering if there wasn't more between Jess and Rory because of their real life breakup....maybe it's still awkward and the chemistry has just changed. I felt like there was more chemistry with Logan than there had been in the earlier seasons. I did feel like the whole affair thing was....just....odd? And Rory being so lost? I feel like I need more about the story in-between....how did things GET that way? Am I the only one?
apricot / 486 posts
@Adira: I'm convinced it is Logan because he is the only one they show Rory have an intimate relationship with (besides the Wookie, but we all know the timeline wouldn't work for that). I think that is why she asked her dad how he felt about not being around when she was growing up. She's convinced she is going to raise the baby alone, because of Logan getting married. I think if Jess was the father, he would drop everything to be with Rory.
apricot / 486 posts
@ValentineMommy: I agree. I feel like we go to such extremes with Rory. At the end of the series, she is so sure of herself and her path. And now...she's totally lost and not focused. Doesn't make much sense. It's not her personality.
I am also a die hard Team Jess!
pomelo / 5791 posts
@schubr03: Totally agree with your post - she definitely knew when she talked to her dad (and it's definitely Logan). At least, I think so. I really just needed them to talk a LITTLE bit about how she got from point A at the end of the series to point B at the beginning of the revival. They could have taken 5 minutes out of the town musical to give us something about it! It was just too big a jump for me....she was like a totally different person. Now believe me, I get that can happen, but it would be nice to have gotten something about how!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@erinbaderin: @schubr03: Oh, you guys may be right. I watched all four episodes back to back and forgot that that one last get-together occurred during the "Fall" segment, so it definitely could be Logan's baby!
@ValentineMommy: @schubr03: I can definitely see how Rory could've become such a mess. I feel like there were a few seasons there where she was kind of a mess (and I blame Logan which is why I never liked him)! Plus she cheated with Dean when he was married, so clearly married men aren't off limits for her!
pomelo / 5573 posts
@ValentineMommy: I disagree, actually - Rory was focused, but always fell apart when things didn't go her way (like when she stole the boat and ran away to Richard and Emily's house). I can totally see that she graduates with a goal of becoming Christiane Amanpour but when the doors don't open easily she doesn't know how to handle it.

I loved this show so much when it was on before, but I couldn't muster up much excitement for the revival. But I watched it, and I liked some of it. Specifically, I loved Paris in it, she was so great. And Luke was great, as always. But the rest of it seemed...forced. Rory just seemed so off the whole time, and forgive me for saying this, but she did not seem 32 to me. I guess this is partially because she looks so young, but also because I am a year older than that and I can't relate to how she is living her life. Also, she seems kind of selfish to me, and that bums me out.
I'm pretty sure the implied baby daddy is Logan, which sucks because I wish it were Jess.
The musical was pointless and a waste of time. It actually really bugs me that ten minutes of the show was spent on that instead of any other plot line.
Lastly, I wanted more of Lane and Zach. I always thought that their story was really interesting, especially the twins part, and I was a little disappointed at how little we learned about them now.
What if there are some grand plans to have a new show with Rory and her baby?!?! That would be so cool!
apricot / 486 posts
@erinbaderin: @Adira: now that you say it, you're right. Rory did kind of faulted when things didn't come easy for her.
I wanted more of Lorelei and Luke and their baby struggle. I mean, you would think that being together for 9 years they would have had this conversation before now. But who knows.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Cereal: I thought the first segment (Winter) did seem forced. It just felt off for some reason, and I wasn't sure if it was because I hadn't watched Gilmore Girls in years or for some other reason. But I felt like it was more in it's groove by Summer and Fall.
I'm 32 and while I can't really relate to what a mess Rory was, it does seem realistic to me. I have some friends who are messes. Some friends have a good career going, but their personal lives are a disaster. And some are the other way around. I can definitely see someone who majored in journalism being a mess at 32 (no offense intended, journalism majors!).
pomelo / 5791 posts
@erinbaderin: Sure, but one would think that somewhere between 22 and 32, you'd grow up a little bit!
@Mrs. Cereal: EXACTLY! She was a kid in the series, that at times, seemed more focused and driven than some adults. At 32, she's a full grown adult....yet seemed more like a kid.
Basically, I think the revival was great and nostalgic and all, but I really wanted some more meat and potatoes as to what happened in all those years!
pomelo / 5573 posts
@ValentineMommy: That's a good point, I didn't really think about how much time has passed. So she went on tour with Obama, and then....she wrote a few articles for the Atlantic and one for the New Yorker? And that's it? Some more details about what she's been up to would have been good. Even just something about how she worked for a paper for a while and then it closed down because print is dead, or she quit to take the next step just like she gave up her apartment, something.
persimmon / 1129 posts
Ugh I did not like revival Rory! It feels like they didn't make any changes to her character from the season where she quit Yale and was living in the pool house. She went on the road with the Obama campaign! Shouldn't that have opened some doors for her? And having an affair again? I felt like all her bad decisions were just repeating from the seasons of the show I didn't really like.
I did love love love Lorelai and Luke though, and seeing all the other characters.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@erinbaderin: Exactly - just a teeny bit of info, and less of the musical nonsense would have been great lol!
pomelo / 5129 posts
In the original series, Rory had started to get on my nerves once she became entitled in college and everything always worked out for her. I feel like they sort of amplified that for the new episodes. I just couldn't stand her at all. And like, her voice seemed totally different? I just didn't feel like even Alexis liked her anymore.
I loved Emily. And Luke and Lorelai. But Emily is by far the best.
I would have liked more of Lane and Zack too, but given how awful Rory is now and how awesome they are, it wouldn't have done anything for her image!
And omg...the beginning of Fall?? I asked my mom if I'd taken percocet and not realized it before we started that one. What the hell was going on? Someone was high...

I'm watching it through again.
Totally agree about Logan is Christopher, and Jess is Luke. And thus the cycle continues. But while I'm sure it is to be implied that Rory has a girl, I would like to see her have a son named Richard.
Big wtf moments include the musical, as well as Lane's dad. Lorelai going to California to hike. And the whole Naomi thing. It could have focused more on original characters.
nectarine / 2466 posts
@Mrs. Cereal: I agree with everything. They had 10 years to figure out a story line and they spend 10-15 minutes on that garbage of a musicla/play thing? What was that?
I was actually quite disappointed in it. I felt like there could have been way more of a story line, and it could have felt much more natural, but instead, I feel like it didn't really come together. I still like the show, and I'm glad they did this, but just wish it had contained a bit more content.
coconut / 8472 posts
Overall I liked it, but I felt like a bunch of things were just off. Like the Lorelai going hiking thing. I also was disappointed in Rory for the affair with Logan. I felt like she should've had more respect for herself. And what was his deal - he'd never been shown as a cheater before, I don't think. So was he was he still in love with Rory or just a ?
I also thought if they were going to set Jess up to be her Luke there needed to be more interest coming from her. Unless they were implying he was going to be like season 1 Luke and just pine after her while she doesn't notice him? That seems weird.
The musical was terrible, but it's part of the show's schtick to have these awful small town productions. Like the episode where they turn a house into the Stars Hollow museum and they have all these mannequin scenes.
As for Suki, they did weird things with her character and that scene was just awkward. I would've liked more resolution on the story line with her and Michele and the Inn.

I loved this article:
http://time.com/4582661/gilmore-girls-ending-last-four-words/
Especially the last bit "We don’t need to see what happens next because we already watched seven seasons plus four 90-minute episodes of it with Lorelai, Christopher and Luke. That’s how Sherman-Palladino intended to end the story. "
...but the truth is, I want to see her settled somehow--but like that comment--she is in Stars Hollow, unsure about her future, just as her mom was when she arrived...

@ShootingStar: He did sleep with all his sister's bridesmaids when he hadn't even clearly broken up with Rory (she heard they weren't dating from his sister on Thanksgiving)
From the beginning he said he wasn't a commitment kind of person.
pomelo / 5573 posts
Clearly I'm the only person who loved the musical! It could be my love for Sutton Foster...
kiwi / 556 posts
I'm actually coming to terms with the idea that that's the final end. And reading everyone's comments makes me feel better! I feel like Logan is the same guy he's always been (as in he can't commit and Rory is too timid/nice/afraid of commitment to make a fuss over it). I do like the idea that Jess will essentially always be in her life (through Luke).
Overall leaving it like this lets me imagine my own ending! Haha. Not exactly satisfying as a fan but I like the idea from a writer's standpoint.

I liked the stars hallow musical. I think what a lot of people disliked was the life and death brigade bit
clementine / 830 posts
i also enjoyed the musical! it made me laugh, and they got such talented people to do it! i frankly enjoyed the life and death brigade part too, plus lorelai's wedding. but i agree that rory was a bit of a mess through the whole four episodes, and while lorelai and emily got a lot of satisfying closure, she really was really left a question mark. it felt a little to me like the were setting her up for more episodes (notwithstanding the fact that the last four words were long-planned).

I'm also another musical hater. Even the dancing around the wedding seemed so off to me. In a bit disappointed in Rory and the Logan/baby situation. I'm a huge team Jess fan and really fee he's her Luke so I hope all works out. Logan...continues to be a douche using her as a side piece and shame on Rory for knowingly going along with it. I really expected more from her. I really hope they come back because I'm curious to see where they can take everything.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Aww I love that! Kind of reminds me of Parenthood with the grandson named Zeek.
I thought the musical was funny, just too long. It definitely could have been edited down.
The scene I DID love? Where Rory went into the mansion and "saw" some of the scenes play out with her grandfather. Cue all the tears!

@ValentineMommy: Ugh, when Rory walked into Richard's study and he was in there... ALL THE TEARS IN THE WORLD!!!

@Adira: yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!! Just hearing his voice too.....so sad. I always felt like he was kind of the glue that held them together at times, and that he and Rory had such a special bond.

I was disappointed in the revival. I thought some conversations dragged on too long and that musical was pointless. If I could have easily fast forwarded it, I would have.
There was not enough between Rory and Jess. It left me dissatisfied. I hated that she was cheating with Logan, I hated the random guy Paul who she treated terribly. Her character just kind of sucked.
Am I the only one kind of annoyed we didn't find out if Sookie's third baby was a boy or a girl?
The scenes with Emily were all amazing. She's aged so well! It was also nice to see a lot of the cast again.
The last four words.... I don't know. Yeah, she's pregnant but she's 32 with a college degree from Yale. I feel like her situation from Lorelei's is so different that it was unnecessary to end it this way.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@schubr03: Everything you said about Jess/Logan. Obviously Jess is her Luke....the look at the end proved it.
Favorites:
Paris, Rory's interaction to Christopher (who aged well), Luke's don't leave speech, Jess's longing look at Rory (totally team jess over here, always have been always will be), and Emily's transformation at the end.
Not so favorite parts:
So much Logan and I just can't take him serious (never been a fan of his), Sookie not being at the wedding and it being Lane, that made no sense, she should have been there for that, no mention of what happened with Rory and working for the Obama campaign...shouldn't that have been mentioned?
