@LuLu Mom: oh my gosh! I bawled like a baby during Luke's don't leave speech! It was so amazing! He always was the best man out there! He truely loves Lorelei for all of her faults and quirks!

I feel like Jess can be that way for Rory. He's always helping her find her path again. Leading her in the right direction. He did it when she left Yale and he's doing it now with the book!
    LOVE! #teamjess

@LuLu Mom: @Umbreon: Yes to everything!!

This is long, but thought it was an interesting read: http://www.vox.com/culture/2016/11/28/13760018/gilmore-girls-final-four-words-review-bad

This has been my favorite story written about it so far (maybe I'm biased because I work with journalists)

Because I'm a huge nerd with too much time, I watched it through again. And the musical grew on me! As did other things I disliked. Knowing what happened to all the characters really put their actions into perspective, and the end really did bring it all together. So I was much more pleased with everything.

Well, I just finished the last episode (on my lunch break) and had to pop in here to say something to someone because no one I know in real life watches this show! I literally gasped out loud and then cried because we won't get more. Sigh. I love this show.

So basically, are we going with the premise that Winter picks up at the end of Season 6 and that 7 didn't happen, or wasn't significant? It's my understaning that the final 4 words were supposed to be how ASP ended the show since she wasn't involved for Season 7.

  7. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@looch: Not necessarily. For instance, Lane's kids appear in the new episodes. Lorelai does mention being married to Christopher

ASP said in an interview there were some things she wasn't going to factor in heavily, but I don't think the full season was ignored.

But I do think the final four words would have made more sense 9 years ago

@MaryM: Yes, agreed. I think they would have made more sense to end the series that way. I do think they had to at least work around season 7, although it was probably not ideal. I think that was the whole point of the show, that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We wouldn't have needed A Year in the Life then, just as we don't need anything more on what happens next.

I feel done with the show. What's weird to me is that I am closer in age to Lorelai than I am Rory, but I am having trouble idenfifying with either character. When I watched the series the first time, I feel like I could understand Rory, but now as a parent, I can't identify with Lorelai. I feel more like Emily, lol.

@MaryM: As much as I enjoyed the new Gilmore Girls, I definitely loved that Atlantic article and I agree! Rory's a terrible journalist!!

@looch: hahaha I feel the same way. I think Lauren Graham is in that awkward stage of aging where she's obviously no longer young, but she hasn't hit the "I'm old" stride yet, because she's still trying to be young. And I feel bad for, but also am mad at Rory. She's 32, no real job, she didn't go to grad school and she's essentially a really smart loser.

While it's futile at this point to debate:
Who is the baby's daddy - the wookie or Logan?

  12. Adira

@mediagirl: It's gotta be Logan I think. She slept with the Wookie in "Spring."

@Adira: ahh. Didn't pay attention to the season there.

  14. looch

@mediagirl: I think it's Logan. It fits with the whole Luke/Jess and Christopher/Logan parallels.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mediagirl: haha, I hear you. I had to look it up because I watched them all just back to back, so I couldn't remember when it happened! I originally didn't think it was even Logan because I thought the whole last night together thing happened much earlier!

@mediagirl: definitely Logan. And you can tell when she finds out (the morning when the dress lady is there) because she almost forgets her purse and makes some comment about things being crazy and she seems flustered. And she talks to Christopher that afternoon, and doesn't drink the coffee he got her. It's 3 days before the wedding, the morning of which she tells Lorelai.

@Mrs. Microscope: hahaha. I was like - woah. I didn't watch this show closely AT ALL, apparently.

@looch: I totally love Emily the most too.

@mediagirl: It's either Logan, or I've heard some suggest that she could be a surrogate (either just because she needs the money and Paris is her friend and would want to take care of her...or she could even be a surrogate for her mom, which would be insane). That theory sort of blew my mind.

@MaryM: Haha she was sooo bad!

@mediagirl: Logan is the only option, that we saw anyway. Unless...they come with more episodes and do some sort of flashback to her hooking up with someone we hadn't seen.

I got Netflix as a Christmas present and finally got to see the new episodes! I had heard I wouldn't like the last 4 words but luckily had no idea what they would be till now.

Overall it made me so happy to experience Stars Hollow again. I loved the town hall meetings, what's been keeping Taylor and the town busy all these years, Paris's career - I didn't expect that at all, the 30 something group and parent support group, and the Wild experience. The musical was a great idea but I agree too long - I loved the Hamilton reference as if the show was still on I am sure they would have referenced it.
I would have loved to see more of Lane and Sookie too.
It seemed strange that Rory didn't make any new friends in the past decade - I get that is not what A year in the life is about but I would have expected 1 new person other than Paul in her life. She definitely does not seem as likable as she was but I am fine with how it ended.

A Year in the Life actually made me want to go back and rewatch the original show, so now I'm watching season 1!! It's crazy how young everyone is! Especially Rory!!
