i would probably do a lot of heavy appies... like meatballs, sausage rolls, spinach dips... it's better to err on the side of too much food than not enough. if i was going to a 130 party i would assume lunch would be there and i definitely wouldn't eat before going.

I would be ok with snacks but I would expect heavy snacks. Mini sandwiches, meatballs, chips and dip. Or just a bowl of chicken salad. Not quite a meal

I would expect lunch, especially if there is travel involved for any of the guests.

I think of lunch being around noon, so I wouldnt expect a full meal..but maybe some heavier snacks like @blackbird: mentioned.

If it were me I would serve apps and a light lunch because you just never know. I would hate for anyone to be hungry. Like PP said maybe finger sandwiches/something light. You could also do pasta salads/ regular salads.

@swedishfish: same here. My circle of family and friends always expects a full meal, no matter what time, if they are attending a hosted party.

I think maybe "heavy" snacks, so finger foods that can fill you up, but not like a meal meal.

I would expect lunch at 1:30 b/c of the getting ready/travel time...L's 1st was at 2 pm and our family (well, DH's family...) expected a full lunch though.

I would go heavy apps, like pinwheel sandwiches from costco and veggies with dip

I would do heavy appetizers/snacks at that time. Not a full meal, but enough food that it could be a meal. Such as meat/cheese/crackers, several dips, relish tray, little smokies, pinwheels, fruit salad, ect.

@lawbee11: @mrs. oatmeal: Ours is the next day at 2pm
Going for her actual birthday on the Sunday since that weekend is a holiday weekend here.
I debated between 1 and 2pm because I actually wanted to serve lunch. Throwing on burgers and salad actually sounds easier than doing appies to me.
At 1:30 it could go either way I think as long as people know what to expect.

Yes to heavy appetizers. Fruit and veggie trays, a crockpot full of meatballs or BBQ pulled pork or a deli tray, some sweet Hawaiian rolls, a pasta salad, cookies, chips, salsa, guac, hummus - basically anything you can grab at Costco.
