Has this worked for anybody?
I am ready to get this kid OUT! I lost my mucus plug on Saturday and have experienced lots of BH and mild cramping (in waves) since then. My doctor said most of the old wives tales don't work but sex can be effective.
I am not really in the "sexy" mood, passing mucus and all, but maybe it's worth a shot?

We tried and it didn't work for us, but maybe we didn't do it enough? I was feeling blah! I did do a lot of walking, I mean a TON of walking and I think that really helped.

My Dh was soooo not into it. We talked about tying but I felt like crap and he was all freaked out (I was 2 weeks late) so it just didn't happen even bough my midwife said it would help!!

I was desperate to get my LO out b/c she would have been induced in a few days otherwise! So, I took my dog for two extremely long walks, ate sundubu (a spicy tofu soup), had one of my church pastor's pray for me, and had sex...all in one day. Sure enough, the next morning at 4am, my water broke. I'm not sure I can attribute it entirely to sex, but it was part of the regimen and I did end up going into labor!
ETA: Although I was most definitely not in a sexy mood either, desperate times call for desperate measures! Haha.

We actually almost stopped because I got contractions during.., stimulation and when I... You know 
But my midwife said that if you're meant to go into labor, sex may induce it, but if you're not- you won't! Haha.
It did make me have contractions though!

We tried, but it didn't work. Like Bao, I walked a ton (and bounced on the yoga ball) but I'm convinced that nipple stimulation (in the form of trying out my breast pump) is what got it going.

I was 41+5, so who really knows if it worked because it was TIME for that baby to come out! But we had sex, and the next day I lost my mucous plug. Had sex again, and the next day I was in labor. So... I think it works!

Ummmm we had so much get this baby out of me sex I got a UTI and thus labor felt like a vampire baby was clawing its way out if my stomach since he was pressed against my bladder.
I will not be doing that again this time around.

been there, done that. we didn't have any luck with it but go for it. if it were me though, i'd just enjoy that big ol' bowl of ice cream!

@rahlyrah: my OB said the only "natural" induction method that existed were: sex and stripping the membranes. She said walking would help warm you up and bring baby down and make contractions stronger (if you walked while in labor).
To answer your Q: sex worked and didn't for us...it got things going for me and then they'd stop. So, it created false labor for me:(

We didn't have sex for two weeks before my water broke cause DH was afraid it would cause labor. But I was so tired I didn't want to anyway. I told him I didn't care we were that night but it never happened cause my water broke.

@rahlyrah: I was forcing my husband to have sex with me like 4 times a day for a week and I just laid there like a beached whale. Poor DH lol.

I agree with most PP, it gave me some contractions but never got labor going full force. We sure were trying at the end there!

It didn't work for us. We had never stopped in the first place, though, so that could be why. 
Walking also didn't help me, but again I had stayed pretty active throughout, so it wasn't a sudden surge of activity.

i zero signs of labor, was 5 days past my due date. we had sex and a few hours later my water broke...could be a coincidence.....
eta: I won't be doing this with pregnancy #2 (whenever it happens) because although it may have broken my water, my contractions were slow, i still had to be induced, and ended up with a c section due to the fact that labor was not progressing and my water had broken close to 48 hours prior! so in retrospect, i wish we never had sex that time in case it broke my water earlier than it should have!

I'm reading a birth about natural childbirth right now, and it says that sex-induced labor is an old wives tale. BUT, if you feel like it, it's not like it could hurt anything!!

Ugh, I didn't even try! I spent 10 hours cooking in the kitchen the day before my water broke. 8 am, stepped out of bed, and GUSH!

no personal experience but Ina May's book says that nipple stimulation can help progress labor.

my sister had two rounds of caster oil. that got the baby out. She said she does not recommend it because while pushing... you can figure out the rest

Without getting too detailed, let me say that when I got 'there' I had contractions. And about 10 minutes after I got there, my water broke. I'm a believer.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Your mucus plug fills and seals the cervical canal while you're pregnant. A few weeks/days before you go into labor it falls out. I'm not going to lie, it is pretty gross. Some people pass it in small amounts over several days. Mine came out in one glorious chunk. The best (though grossest) way to describe it, is it looks as if your vagina blew it's bloody nose in your underwear.

@bunnylove08: my bestie's midwife suggested castor oil (with root beer) when she hit 42+1 (and a pit induction scheduled the next day), it did send her straight into labor, but.. yeah.. that too.
ETA at 42+1 with accupressure, chiropractor, hypnobirthing, DTD, spicy food, everything you could think of, she was that desperate! lol

Sex works well for getting your water to break BUT that doesn't always mean that labor will follow so it's not my favorite way to try & induce.... Really, I'm all about rest up for labor as much as you can.
