We are headed down to San Francisco next week and DH is working so I'm looking for some fun baby friendly ideas for things to do. My LO just turned 1! We are staying in Union Square so ideally things in SF-proper and accessible by transit would be great.
And if anyone is around and wants to meet for lunch, I'd be up for that too!

@Sunny: @autumnlove: Hooray!!! I love SF and there's so many great things to do with kids.
Pick up a pizza at Delphina or some sandwiches/fruit/cheese at bi-rite market and have a picnic in Dolores park. There's a huge playground there too. Grab some bi rite ice cream afterwards.
Rent bikes and ride around golden gate park
Stroll around Noe valley and the marina. Both neighborhoods are very kid friendly and have great places to eat - check yelp
There is the zoo, exploratorium, academy or sciences and the discovery museum (in Sausalito) which would all probably be more fun for you since LO is only a year but it'll keep your day full and there are a few things for their age at these places.
What days are you here? Maybe we can meet up...wall me

When I went last year and had a day by myself, I enjoyed strolling the botanical garden! Saw lots of kids too. Maybe you'd like that?

-If you are in town 9/14-9/15 there is an Autumn Moon Festival in Chinatown (walking distance from Union Square) http://www.moonfestival.org/
-If you don't want to venture too far, I like to let my LO run around the fourth floor of Westfields on Market Street. It has a really cool dome and LO loves staring at it.
-Take the 5, 31, 21 to Golden Gate Park (20 min bus ride from Union Square to get to the edge of the park) Here are some fun things to do in the park http://gosanfrancisco.about.com/od/thingstoseeanddo/tp/topninethingstodoinggpark.htm
-Academy of Science! http://www.calacademy.org/
-If you plan on using the bus a lot, I would add Nextbus to your phone so you get updates on when the next bus will be arriving. Does not work for BART.
-Take the J (underground MUNI) down to Mission Delores Park, grab lunch from BiRite and head across to BiRite Creamery for ice cream

@sunny: If you're near Delores you're nearby the Mission--some parts are a little shady but some parts are really cool and worth a stroll.

I'm not sure how warm it will be but we went to the Mission Playground where there is a huge playground and spray park. LO had a lot of fun!
Also, she had a lot of fun walking around the square in Union Square and chasing after pigeons (gross). I'd get some take out and have a picnic there.
There were a lot of cool places for kids, but i felt that a lot was geared towards older kids. We mainly walked around SF and just enjoyed what the city had to offer.

I can't believe I forgot... if you're staying in Union Square you're so close to Chinatown and North Beach! Fun neighborhoods to walk through. How old is your LO? There are plenty of playgrounds in both neighborhoods.
