Right now I'm working on a lampshade for the baby's "room" (which is really just a small alcove) and it's making me want to claw my eyes out! I couldn't find a bright colored lampshade that I liked so I thought hey, why not DIY something? But these ruffles are sucking up all my time and also my soul and you can see the hot glue I used on the finished product, which is no bueno. Please, someone else tell me you feel my pain! (I am posting the inspiration pic...)

@MrsBrewer: Curtains are our next project! I hope yours go well. Funny cross stitch story: my mom started a really elaborate stocking for me when I was a baby and finished when I was in middle school.

@tororojo: Oh that's funny! My goal for my project I'm on right now is to finish it before I get pregnant! So.....2-3 years? that way I can start on a baby blanket or something when i'mm pregnant! I'm hopeless.....I will probably be like your mom though and not finish the baby blanket until LO is 9-10! hahaha

@MrsBrewer: Yeah, it's our ongoing joke that she can't do stockings for her grandkids because if she has more than 2 it'll take like 20 years to finish them. You can always make LO's baby blanket into one for his/her children!

@MrsBrewer: @tororojo: I love making curtains! Have you thought of using hem tape for them? It makes the edges much straighter than I could with the sewing machine. Young House Love has a good tutorial on hem tape curtains.
I made a ridiculous amount of stuff for DS's nursery over summer break (I'm a teacher & was off): a crib skirt, curtains, painted a dresser, & made a mobile. I just finished some stockings for the family last weekend. They took me like 2 months! Which, I guess, is nothing on 12 years for one

@mewtill: Your stockings are super cute!!! I'm impressed that you got so much done on your vacation. And I can't sew whatsoever so I'm planning to use hem tape for my curtains! I am using the ones from our wedding photo booth, just need to make them a whole lot shorter to fit the window above the crib. I will check out YHL's tutorial for tips, great idea!

@tororojo: I can't take to much credit for the stockings. I saw them on etsy, but they were too expensive so I just copied them. DH actually taught me how to sew & helped me figure out a pattern. I'm useless with crafts unless I've got a tutorial! That's why I love YHL!

I'm still scarred from installing wainscoting around the nursery a year ago. I'm supposed to start re-finishing the kitchen cabinets now that the weather is nice...but can't seem to get started.

@runnerd: Haha, better get started on those! Time is a ticking. I would probably make DH help; that seems like something he could do.

I'm happy to report that I don't have any crazy DIY killing me right now, but that is because I've come to accept that I'm not crafty and have given up all together! So maybe all DIY kills me?! lol!

@Mrs. Pen: That was my original inspiration, actually! But I didn't have thread in a color that matched my material and wanted to get started that night, so I went for a similar looking method that only used hot glue. As of last night, I think I'm done--I finished maybe 2/3 of the lamp but I don't love it. So I'm gonna leave it with the unfinished side facing the corner until I find and buy a lampshade I like better!

I'm going to attempt to make all new garlands for the front door, fireplace, and back window, with a matching wreath on the front door. Hope to get it finished this weekend, but who knows!
