Double sink is a MUST.ETA: the one thing I wish we had the room for is a wall of double ovens. But my stove is huge so it's actually not a problem.

@Silva: we almost did soapstone!!! But we could not find a slab we liked. And locally there were only 2 distributes of full slabs.

@Smurfette: I am in love with the brick in that first picture!! I wonder if I could get away with a brick veneer inside my house... haha

I love black counters with either all white cabinets or dark base cabinets and white uppers. I also love the moroccan shaped tiles and glass tile. I like the idea of a built-in banquette for an eat-in kitchen.

@Smurfette: Oooohhh my goodness!
I wonder if that would look good above my cabinets, or it would be too small of a space? Here's the only picture I have on my computer (before and after showing that we replaced windows and removed wallpaper)

@swurlygurl: from the pictures I think that it might be a little small. But maybe you could do it for the backsplash and then over the cabinets. I am sure there is some kind of computer program you can do a mock up and see how it would look first.

@locavore_mama: Yes, I have fought many battles with DH and painting (or replacing) wood is one I will never be able to win. I'm learning to love and appreciate it (albeit slowly...)

@Smurfette: That's what I thought. I might need to find a different wall in the house somewhere to put up a brick veneer - I looove the looks of brick walls!

I want what I call a welcoming kitchen. This is what I hope to accomplish when we build in a few years! The last picture I love the idea of hiding the mixer but having it available at my convenience!

I love white kitchens, but with rustic touches like wood beams. And if I were building my own -a sunny breakfast nook would be a must!

@swurlygurl: I do think a whole accent wall would look better. And I agree with @locavore_mama: if you are keeping the oak cabinets, then no go on the brick.
