My son Frankie is 14 weeks old, and we've been cloth diapering since he was about 1.5 weeks old. He started out around 7 lbs, but I don't know exactly how much he weighed when we started him in his cloth, or when we totally transitioned out of newborn diapers. Now he weighs 18 lbs at 3.5 mo!
Newborn:
5 workhorse fitteds from GMD
12 prefolds from imagine diapers
a few different covers (thirsties, bummis, Joey, nickies)
3 aio nb simplex from blueberry
Newborn cloth was hard because I had the different kinds to try out which made it a little hard each time I changed his diaper, I had to pick a type! I liked the fitted and the prefolds but found the covers a little hard to fit, legs always ended up loose and waist seemed tight. If I were gonna do it again, I'd probably go with just prefolds and use disposables whenever I felt like it, to make it easier on myself. I might even use a diaper service!
I gradually started trying his one size/larger diapers as they seemed like they might fit. Again, I think I would have stuck with the prefolds if I could do it over.
Prefolds:
-12 imagine unbleached--these ended up being my favorites! They are super soft and were easy to fasten around him when they still fit that way. Now I just trifold.
-12 GMD--I don't really like these! I know they are to many the gold standard of prefolds, but they are very stiff (despite adequate prepping) and don't fit as well into the covers even though both types are supposedly same size.
Covers:
-2 thirsties covers (duo wrap) size 1, 1 snap/1 Velcro-- my favorites! Just outgrew them this week
-1 duo wrap size 2-- this one seems to fit a little loose, but we just started using it this week
-1 flip cover--love this one! And still on smallest rise so we should use it for a while
-1 motherease air flow-- fits so oddly, never use it
-1 nickies one size diaper cover-- one of the last I grab (was the same with the nickies newborn one we had)
All in two:
-grovia: 2 shells. I use this often as prefold covers also. Fit nicely and I like the fabric that may touch baby.
4 snap in inserts. Two organic cotton/two stay dry. These are nice I guess, but they take forever to dry. The longest of any diaper I own! I should probably sell these, but I would keep the shells
-best bottoms: 1 shell. Cute print, fits decently, very plasticy/rubbery inside. I use it with prefolds. 3 small inserts: they are ok but I don't like fleece and microfiber. I should sell these too!
All in one:
My favorite! But expensive and I may need to start adding extra absorbency as my big baby grows which makes them less convenient.
-1 bum genius elemental
-7 blueberry one size simplex all in ones. These are so nice for out and about, not to mention perfect for dad diaper changes.
Pockets:
My least favorite. I have been using them for nighttime but I still change 2-3x with feedings because he pees so much. I've experimented with stuffing them with more inserts but they just get ridiculously bulky. Thinking about selling all of these but I can't decide for sure if it's worth the hassle, especially since most of mine are the cheaper kind. Or trying some natural fiber inserts to replace the microfiber which makes my skin crawl to touch.
-kawaii diapers:
1 little green baby bamboo. I actually love this one! I would seriously consider buying a package for a newborn in the future. Not sure how long he will fit into it though.
4 other different kawaii pockets. I can't tell the difference between them really. I hate all the snaps.
-bumgenius 4.0. It's ok. Not much better than kawaii, not sure why these are so popular!
And that's it! It seems like a lot! I am also wondering if maybe I should try disposables at night. I was hoping he'd go back to 1 wake up per night, he recently started 3-4 wake ups! So when he's up anyways I change him.
