I've always heard that stretch marks are basically genetic ... you either get them (to varying degrees) or not

Yeah, I tried regular lotion, Bio-Oil, and cocoa butter plus drinking crazy amounts of water and... I still look like a roadmap.

@aprk: yep, no matter what you do, it's a total crap shoot. I should have gotten them and didn't. *shrug*

A one piece bathing suit covers them up real well.
I tried bio oil and cocoa butter but knew they were my fate.

I tried everything and still got them! I think genetics has a lot to do with it =\

While yes, genetics are basically the key to stretch marks, I WOULD recommend getting a good lotion. Whether it prevents stretch marks or not, it will help with crazy-itchy, dry, stretching belly skin. You'll feel better (and smell pretty) at least!

I fully expected to get tons of stretch marks since I have had some since puberty. But, I used cocoa butter oil (Vaseline brand) twice a day every day and I only have a few.

I swear by Mama Mio products...I used their oil 2x a day and did not get even a hint of a stretch mark.

I honestly think stretch marks are genetic, but you can do some things to help like stay very hydrated and use some type of lotion to help with the itchiness. My mom didn't get any and neither did I
