If you're over 30, what are your favorite shorts? I'm now uncomfortable wearing my old shorts, even though they were never THAT short, but I'm having trouble finding longer shorts that are still flattering. I have very pale, skinny bird legs, so that doesn't help matters!

I've traditionally liked the different lengths and the fit of J. Crew's shorts but haven't bought any new ones from them in probably 2 years, so I can't vouch that they're definitely still the same. They've sold limited colors through J. Crew Factory in the past, too - which seem to be about the same quality.

I love Loft shorts. I usually go for the 4-5" inseam, but they have longer. Lots of cute colors, too!

If you have a Costco or Sam's membership, they sell pretty attractive bottoms (jeans, leggings, shorts, etc) at aqesome prices. I usually buy my stuff from Sam's!

Last summer the Gap had some nice longer-length shorts - not quite Bermudas, but longer than 4" - with the ability to fold the hems if you wanted them a little shorter.

Okay, funny enough, I have been buying Bermuda shorts the last few years, but when I pulled them on for our vacation in February, they were really unflattering...so for this year I am actually looking at something with a shorter inseam, I never thought I would say that at my age!
I really prefer the Athleta skorts over shorts though, they balance out my shape a lot better. It's not the skorts from the 90s (shorts in back, skirt in front), they're a full skirt with the same color bike shorts underneath.

I like Old Navy's 5 inch shorts, I have junk in my trunk (I carry my weight in my butt/thighs) and I prefer the little extra length and they hold up well. Target sometimes has the longer length too and I like them. I have yet to find jean shorts that don't look like mom shorts, I'd love cute cut offs but well I just haven't found them yet.

I really like the i crew 4" chinos but I can't tell if they changed them this year. It says something about "stretch". They typically go on sale alllll the time

I also like the 5 inch length from Old Navy that @LuLu Mom mentioned. I am short and have large thighs, and that length covers well, but isn't too long on me. I have had no issues with previous pairs ripping or falling apart. I like the fabric too!

For the past few years I have been wearing Merona brand from Target. I think they have several lengths.

I like the shorts from Old Navy. They have several different inseams so you can pick the length that you want, and they are inexpensive.

I agree on the Loft shorts. I also got a Merona pair from Target last summer that had a longer inseam, but they're a bit more snug fitting than I'd like now. They might have other options though.

I have shorts from the Gap and Target that are 5-7" in length. Not too frumpy and not too short.

My favorite shorts are a 5" pair from Target (Merona). They are chambray and can even be dressed up a bit. My other favorite pair is a pair of distressed denim from J. Crew factory, I think they are also 5". And I snagged a white pair from them because I liked the fit. Like @Smurfette: I have big thighs, so they all give me plenty of room. Usually 5-6" is where I'm comfortable, I can't pull off shorter with my body type.

J crew! Agree 4 inch are perfect length not too tight and not too baggy. Ive also sized up for a roomier fit and still flattering. And I'm pretty self conscious about my bottom half.

Eddie Bauer! I bit the bullet and bought 3 different styles last year and I love them all. I have large thighs and butt and they are stretchy but not clingy, good rise, and a great length. Looks like they have a sale now too.

I need to put in a plug for the J.Crew factory pull-on (aka elastic waistband) shorts. They come in 3" and 5" lengths and they're amazing. I have worn them 9 months pregnant, newly postpartum, and not-so-newly postpartum, and I love them like crazy. Madewell has a version that I also really like.

My vote is target. I got a great pair of distressed cut offs last year. They're probably slightly too short for my age but I (sadly) lost all my ass when I stopped nursing. So I don't have much to cover up
My next favorite pair is a 3-4" rolled up denim short from H&M. I found them online and had to order about 4 different pairs before I found one that fit. But I love them!

@jape14: @Boogs: Last year I got a pair of shorts and a pair of capris from Loft that had a normal button/zipper fly, but elastic on the sides. They were the most comfortable things EVER. Super bummed they don't have them again this year!
