LO is 4 months old and is not rolling yet. I can't help but notice that all of the other summer babies are rolling already. He isn't even showing any signs of being ready.
Should I be concerned?

Which direction? Front to back?
Either way, I wouldn't be worried.... my LO rolled front to back maybe once or twice around then but not consistently. She just at 5.5 months started rolling like a maniac in both directions with almost no prior experience.

I think four months is still early:). My LO rolled suuuuuper late -- he wasn't reliably rolling both ways till around 8 months! He was a late crawler too, but then suddenly started walking and running like an expert at 15 months, which is a 'normal' time frame. I can hardly catch him now at 17m...
I wouldn't worry about your LO! they are easier to take care of when not mobile, anyway:)!

Mine are 4.5 months (will be 5 months Nov 1) and neither are consistently rolling, I'm a little worried too! DD has done it a few times back to front but DS doesn't seem to have any inclination. It's a little reassuring to know there are other similar-aged babies who aren't rolling either.

W didn't roll front to back until 6 months and back to front until 7. Now he's a rolling champ - he can roll from one side of the room to the other!

@JoJoGirl: He hasn't tried in either direction. We try to coax him during tummy time but he just cries. We've even tried rolling him ourselves and clapping and loving on him. No dice.

It's nothing to be worried about. Peds are only worried if babies haven't rolled over by 9 months. My LO didn't start rolling until 7 months and then he rolled to get around for 2 months before crawling. It's hard not to get worried when you compare your LO to everyone else though but babies are always on their own schedule.

we rolled front to back early, but back to front wasn't until 7 months!

No worries, you aren't the only summer mama without a rolling LO! G shows absolutely zero interest in rolling either way. I'm trying not to be concerned....it's hard not to compare milestones!

No, I wouldn't worry. Try not to compare your baby's milestones to those of other babies. Every baby is different and there is a range of normal.

Don't be worried, babies have their own timeline. My LO is rolling everywhere and diaper changes are challenging now.

R is 4 1/2 months and hasn't rolled either. She does manage to move all over the place by wiggling and scooting haha. I was worried as well but my doctor said no biggy!

Don't worry. He's totally within the normal range. I don't think there are really signs of being ready to roll. When dd did it I think she tried Friday and rolled Saturday. He will do it in his own time.

Ellie didn't until about six months. She does have some gross motor delay, but very minimal. I don't think that alone is cause for any concern, especially not at four months. I think what you are supposed to look at is the overall picture. For example, Ellie wasn't very physically active at all, but some babies might not be rollers and be great sitters, or might be able to scoot. I always try to err on the side of asking a professional, but I don't think you need to feel worried about things.

no worries, mine didn't roll over until closer to five months. they will surprise you! one day they can't and the next day they figure it out and won't stop!

3.5 months here and no rolling yet. He's only once shown any signs of rolling but never accomplished it and hasn't tried since.

I wouldn't worry. LO rolled occasionally at that age, not consistently until later.

It wasn't until 6-7 months for us, so I wouldn't worry yet. At 6 months we started practicing during tummy time, and he got it soon after.

My dd rolled front to back early, but all of a sudden at 5.5 months started rolling both ways, all the way across the room. I wouldn't worry yet.
apricot / 344 posts
DD didn't start rolling until she hit 5 months. She still only does it when she feels like it and she is now almost 7 months.
She doesn't seem remotely ready to start crawling yet either. Girlfriend likes to do things at her own pace.

I'm glad to hear some other babies didn't roll until 7+ months. DS is 7mo and has only rolled a couple times each way.

E rolled back up front for the first time like a week or two after 4 months, and front to back several weeks later.

NO! Don't worry. Mine was a bump on a log until about 5.5m. Even then, he wasn't great at it. I think he fully rolled to both sides with skill at about 6m and then crawled at 9.5m. He is now 12m and he is cruising on furniture and crawling quickly, but not walking, although he tries, so it will be sooner than later. I was worried with every milestone, but he always caught before the designated "point of worry".

@rahlyrah: nope, don't worry! Dd rolled at 4 months, but DS took his sweet time and didn't roll til 7+ months.

Another summer baby, 2.5 months and not rolling yet. I have a big tummy time hater here!
honeydew / 7917 posts
No worries. Your LO will roll when he is ready. I don't think my 1 year old niece knows how to roll, but she is extremely spoiled. Everyone picks her up so she never needed those skills. Strange but true.

@rahlyrah: C still won't roll belly to back. He hatttes tummy time. He rolled back to belly just starting this weekend (my husband took that IG video, of course C never did that in front of me!)

Definitely nothing to worry about! Four months is still early and A showed no interest in rolling over until about a week before it happened. It wasn't like a long buildup or anything.

DS didn't roll over consistently until 5 months. he rolled at 3 months, but then stopped one day and didn't start until 5 months. i think he's fine.

My LO rolled belly to back a couple times right around 4.5 months, then it seemed like he completely forgot how to do it! Now he is a little over 5 months old and just started rolling back to belly as if he's been doing it his whole life. It's like one day it just clicked for him. Please don't worry. - 4 months is still really early for rolling.
