My sister and I haven't had a civil conversation in almost 2 years. She hasn't acknowledged that I'm pregnant other than emailing our friends when we found out we were having a boy (we didn't tell her, she read it on WB). When the baby comes, should I just let her find out on her own that he's arrived or should I send her an email? If I send her an email, is including her in a mass email ok or should she get an individual one?

Sounds like the mass email would be fine, if she hasn't even written you a congrats note. I would definitely tell her though. Why start off a brand new life completely snubbing her?

My sister and I have hardly spoken in about 2 years, too. I let my parents send out a mass email after DS was born to all our extended family, and they included her on that email.

I would take his birth as an opportunity to try to get back on track with a good relationship. I would send her a personal email.

I can pretty much guarantee that any email I send her will go unacknowledged, but I've decided to send her one anyway. It's one less thing she can hold over my head. Unfortunately, it takes two to make any relationship work and she's not willing to give anything to ours.

I wanted to update this. DH included her in all texts updates. She ended up coming out this way for a family funeral and made the drive down to see us today. It was an awesome visit and I'm so happy she came. I cried and cried of course, but it was awesome.

@boiledpnut: This is just awesome. I hope things work out with you two. I know my older sister and I have had some differences in our time, along with some pretty huge arguments, but a sister can really be a great gift in your life. I hope she sticks around for you.

Aaaaaw, that's awesome news!!! I'm so glad you made the first move and included her in the texts etc and that she took the step to come and see you.
