I think it should. I always feel stalkerish when I think someone was recently engaged because they are wearing a ring on that finger.

I think people should wear whatever rings they want wherever they want.

@night cheese: agreed.
A new sparkler may prompt me to inquire about the ring, not the woman's relationship status, but that's it.

I chose Other. Some rings are obviously not engagement or wedding rings based on their style. If you want to wear a costume ring or a cocktail ring on that finger, go right ahead. But please leave cathedral-set 1.5c round brilliant diamonds with a pave band for their intended use if you are going to use that finger.

I chose other. My parents were married 32 yrs before they divorced and my mom continues to wear a ring on her ring finger (not a wedding ring) because she feels weird without one on. At first I thought it might seem strange if she wanted to date again, but it hasn't been an issue.

No, only because in other parts of the world, differnt fingers are used for wedding rings.

No, people can wear rings wherever they want. I used to wear a ring on my left ring finger long before i was even dating my husband.

No, I think people can wear whatever jewellery they want anywhere they want.
That said, they shouldn't be shocked when people assume they're engaged/married. You can't really assume someone's relationship status based on what they're wearing, but people still do.

I said other. I wouldn't wear any engagement-like ring on that finger but I did wear costume-y rings (like a huge silver flower) on that finger before.
ETA - @ElbieKay: agreed! I should read THEN post

I said other because *I* reserve it for wedding jewelry, but I don't think everyone does. If you don't want people to assume you are engaged or married, probably best to avoid bands or solitaires on that finger, but if you don't care what people think about your relationship status, whatever. (As in if someone is single and heading out hoping to meet someone, perhaps leave it empty!)
If I see a non married friend wearing jewelry on that finger I would wonder or ask about it though.

Personally, I have only ever worn my engagement ring + wedding band on that finger.
I don't care what other people wear - their jewelry, their hand, their choice! - but I do check that finger to see if someone is engaged/married! It's just habit, I guess.

I said yes just b/c it throws me off when I see a ring there or don't haha. But honestly people should be able to do whatever they want!

I don't *care* but it instantly think wedding/engagement ring. I never did/never would wear a ring on that finger other than my wedding rings just because to me, thats what that finger is for

Not necessarily, I wore a ring from DH on that finger when we were dating, I figured I was "committing" myself to him so I would wear it on that finger. I did have a guy friend who hated that I did that, he said it's "deceiving to single guys out there, assuming I was engaged. But in my mind I was "taken."

@LuLu Mom: Well in that case you weren't really "single" anyway. I don't think any deceiving was happening.

@pui: That was my response to him! haha he was just bitter, he was ready to settle down & hated seeing it happening to people around him Thankfully he's married now! ha

Doesn't matter to me but I don't like wearing rings that much!

No... I mean if you ARE married I think you should wear your ring(s) on your left ring finger if you opt to wear rings. But otherwise... I don't feel like I owe it to the world to wear my jewelry in any particular way.
