I finally got DH to agree to have overhead lighting installed in the nursery, but now I need to pick something out. We're having a girl, but I'd kinda like to stay away from actual chandeliers. Please inspire me!

We have this one from overstock: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Indoor-4-Light-Chrome-And-Crystal-Flushmount-Chandelier/5142970/product.html?CID=208011
It's pretty and sparkly and LO loves to stare at it. Here's a pic of it in the room but it's sort of hard to take a photo of a light...

@Ash: we have the same one and love it! It casts the prettiest shadows on the wall

@Ash: I have always loved that one! Will have to work on DH;) Does it provide enough light? I'd say it's a medium-sized room.

We have this one! In a small 10x12' foot room, so if yours is bigger, i'd go with a 4 light. 3 lights is fine for us!

Our electrician actually installed this ceiling fan the same day my daughter was born, while we were at the hospital! We have it hooked up to a dimmer switch, which has turned out to be amazingly useful in the middle of the night when she wakes up crying. I think I looked at every single ceiling fan on Amazon before I picked this one, since I didn't want one that looked ugly and outdated, and needed the fan blades to be very close to the ceiling, since our ceilings are only 7.5' high.

Is it necessary to have lighting near the glider (i.e., on the table by the chair)? We currently only have overhead lighting. It's only a cheap flush mount, but I want to replace it with something else. Hopefully, I'll find inspiration here! But I was also wondering if I need to buy a table side lamp. I have a shade already, but no base.
@Mae: I notice that you don't have one in your photo. I'm in serious nursery envy here... your nursery is gorgeous. Not sure which part I love the most!
@Rhododendron: I've asked DH to install a dimmer switch for the overhead lighting already. Would that negate the need for a separate table lamp?

@Astro Bee: we put the overhead light on a dimmer switch (about $20 at lowes) so we can have things very dim in there with just one light. I highly recommend it for motn changings so you don't fumble in the dark or wake baby up too much with bright light. And thanks!!

@Mae: Thanks for the recommendation. It's simple enough for DH to do. Regarding your accent table, did you dip that yourself, or did you buy it already done? It looks like the paint matches your dresser.

We also have a "brushed nickel", slightly modern looking fan with a light.
Then we have an Ikea grey bedside table lamp.

@Astro Bee: sorry i forgot to respond! I got the dresser, end table, and changing table on craigslist and painted them all with no-voc gloss enamel. The legs of the table I painted gold with martha stewart craft paint.

@SeptMomma12: I don't know if this is still considered a chandelier type overhead but we plan on using a hanging airplane for our vintage airplane themed nursery.
I love this light!

I just bought this one, which DH installed yesterday. We have it on a dimmer switch, also courtesy of DH. It doesn't look like it's for sale at Home Depot USA, but the company is called Piera, if you like the look.

@Mae: Thanks for letting me know which paint you used. I'll keep that in mind for a future nursery, in case we feel like updating our current furniture.

@WinterBee: That light is amazing! I need to keep that in mind when we change DS's room to a "big boy" room. He's already said he wants transportation stuff.

@SeptMomma12: There's a few different places that have airplane lights. I love it, DH is a pilot and wants an airplane nursery, which I think I can make super cute and the light will transition well into different stages.
Good luck with the big boy room!

@WinterBee: Thanks! It's a lot more complicated when they have an opinion

We just have "regular" light on the ceiling, and then a standing lamp from Target by the glider.
