We have a 2 year old son Archer (Archie) and I'm currently pregnant with a girl.
Our top 2 names are Aria and Victoria. I really like Aria but is it too similar to Archie? My husband and his sisters all start with the same letter & he said it was never a problem but I'm not too sure! Archie's initials are AMG and if we call the new baby Aria hers will be ANG (already decided on middle name).

My mom, dad, brother and I were all Js. DH is a J, too, and we'll probably go with a J-name for our LO. Obviously I don't mind the matching letters.

I have a 3 year old daughter and am expecting a boy in early January. Currently our top contender starts with the same letter as our daughter's name. I don't have an issue with it at all! My hubby and his sister's names start with the same letter as well. It's a non-issue to me. Good luck!

It doesn't feel like a pattern to me until there are three, but Archie and Aria are too close for me, personally.

We have a K and C, but they both have the hard K sound. I love their names, but honestly they sound so similar we are always calling them the wrong names! But this is two girls, so maybe less of an issue with Boy/Girl.

If they were both just A names it wouldn't bother me (my brother and I are both C names). But the fact that they both start with Ar makes them too similar for me.

@MamaG: My brother's name starts with Ch and I start with Ca but my mom still always called us the wrong names. Hell, sometimes she would throw the dog's name in there before getting to the right kid!

I plan to use the same letter again for #2! It's not for for the sake of "matching", but that the other name we love really is the same letter (and if gender works out).

As others have said, I don't mind the same letter for the first name but I don't like when it's the same sound, if that makes sense. So Archie and Anna would be fine with me, but Archie and Aria are too similar for my tastes.

Choose the name you love. I didn't want the same number but my favorite second girl name (our runner up for DD1) is what we went with. They are matchy but you know it works and sound cute together. My fear is now if we have a 3rd, I don't want to use that letter again! ha

Ahhh the second siblings name's first letter is always such a big decision. Let's say your first two share the same letter and then you have a third. Better name the third with the same letter or he/she is the odd ball.
Archie/ Aria and AMG/ ANG is too close IMO, but pick the name you love the most. I happen to like Victoria better than Aria anyway.

Personally, I dislike siblings having matching letter names. It's too cutesy for me.
And even ignoring that, I think those two names are a bit too similar to use together.

All my 3 girls start with A. It wasn't actually planned but ended up that way and I love it.

My daughter's name is a nickname and if we have a second daughter we are using a name that is very similar to LO. Sophie and Sadie. I love the names and it's not like they're going to grow up and be joined at the hip. They will have different lives, jobs and friends where it won't be so obvious that their names are matchy. I would go for it. Who knows, they could be super famous one day and having matching names will work in their favor.

I'm mostly in the "if you love it, use it" camp, but personally I wouldn't do those two because of the Ar sound. We did deliberately have both of ours' middle names start with R, like DH's (L and DH share a middle name, though spelled differently). However, with only one of them alive it's not really the same.

We probably will use the same letter for both names. But only cause I like both girl and boy name with the same letter as LO.

Love it. We will use the same letter for all kiddos. I picked M's name because I love it, and luckily there are other M names we equally love.

I think it is totally fine to have siblings that start with the same initial, I may even do it if we have a second. I do think that Aria and Archie are a little too close (would Aria ever be called Ari? Ari/Archie sound really similar...)
FWIW my brother and I have names that start with the same letter AND our first names have the same number of letters and 3 of the 5 are common AND we have the same middle name (mother's maiden). That's a little too much for me.

@Truth Bombs: Yes! It's the Ar that's throwing me, not just the A. But honestly, it really won't matter. Go with what you love.
ETA: One other thing to consider, are you planning on having a third? It may be strange to break from an Ar then. For example if you had Archie, Aria, and Jane it would sound odd (to me at least). Friend of mine was like that in hs. It was something like Dave, Dan, and Chelsea. Odd.

Not a problem! My mom was one of 8 kids and they all had the initials JLS. My DH is one of 3 boys all with L names. My DH, DS and I are all L's too.

We unintentionally picked the same letter names for our DD and DS. I also thought it was too cutesy, match-matchy, but it was really the only name we both liked. I just say go with what you love!

If you love it, name baby what ever you want. If they were twins no one would think twice if both their names started with an Ar...so I don't see why it should be a problem when they aren't. Sometimes, some letters/sounds appeal to people, you can't help that.

I think they sound great together. Choose the name you love. I agree with @PrincessBaby: no one will care about initials.

I'm an "Anna" and my brother is an "Andrew" and I never once noticed the sibling name connection until maybe... Now. Must ask my Mom if it was intentional.
