I've heard a ton of mixed things about side-snap/kimono style tops. Some sources say that they are a must for when baby is first born, to avoid pulling the over her head. Others say that they aren't needed, and most people I've met IRL haven't ever used them.
What do you think? Should I pick some up for the first little while, or am I okay with the onesies and sleepers I already have?

YES. I was eternally grateful for the kimonos . . . you couldn't have paid me enough to try to get anything over LO's uber-noodle-y newborn head/neck!

I never dressed my newborn in clothes! She rocked a diaper and sometimes those sleeper gowns that you just pull up to change.

We were fine with onesies, though Xander wore a lot of sleepers, which were nice because they didn't have to go over the head.

We didn't use any. We always just used regular onesies and didn't have a problem

I put my nb in regular onesies (they stretch really wide, so it's not as scary as you think!) and avoided the gown sleepers..I loved the idea, but she flipped out when I had to drag all that fabric over her head!
regarding side snaps, gerber makes some really cute sidesnap onesies! I loved those until she grew out of them. the side snap t-shirts I didn't love.

@sorrycharlie: My exact feelings on the gowns! He would freak out because of all the fabric.
I like the side snap tees when it's hot out, because he can just wear that and a diaper. Honestly, we use the sleep n plays and onesies with pants more than anything.

I wanted some, but we never got them and I didn't miss them. We just put him in onesies from the start. I didn't mind pulling it over his head-he didn't freak out too much.

We have a few side snap onesies and I love them! But we still dressed her in clothes that had to go over her head from the beginning as well.

Got them and never used them. LO's head wasn't particularly wobbly and I was worried about her tummy getting exposed.

I read the side-snap/kimono advice as well and was stressed that I didn't have enough...and then I never ended up using the ones I did have. She basically lived in sleepers for the first month of her life.

Spring baby in the middle of the desert. He rocked baby legs, a cloth diaper and the side snap t's I loved them. We were never in sleepers until he was over a year old. So get a couple try them out and see what works. I thought I would do the gowns more and I don't think he wore one gown ever.

We only used the one from the hospital, and it was rare. I was comfortable dressing a newborn, and didn't honk the side snaps were necessary.

I hated the side snap shirts because they constantly rode up and I felt like I was always pulling her shirt down when she wore them. I loved the side snap onesies by gerber and the gowns. DH only used the side snaps when he dressed her, he was so uncomfortable putting anything over her head.

We loved side snap tees by Carter's. That's all they wore for a few weeks since diaper changes were so frequent.

Never used them. She wore footed sleepers a lot. Regular onesies when not in sleepers. I didn't find getting the onesies on tough. She's my first, so I was scared of breaking her no matter what I did - onesies were no more fearful than anything else

I hated the side snap shirts because they constantly rode up, so we only used those like twice. Other than that, she was/is in onesies. It's super hot here so we don't even use sleepers.

I hated them. I prefer the centre button onsies with the big but flap that comes right up to their belly. But her first 2 weeks she was basically just in a diaper and swaddled.
