I want to educate myself a bit more on sleep training and would love to hear about how (what method) you went about it, when (at what age), and why you did?
My 5 month old only fully STTN once or twice – and that’s okay with me. I have no problem with waking for a middle of the night feeding if she needs it. Up until just recently, she slept swaddled with one arm out and was pretty good about putting herself asleep when I put her down at night drowsy but awake. She hasn’t ever been great at doing so for middle of the night wakenings though. I almost always nurse her and then she goes back to sleep right away. But again, she always seemed hungry and with just one wakening I never minded this one bit.
A week and a half ago, we stopped swaddling the other arm and moved to wrapping the belly only because she had been rolling back to belly more frequently (although she had never done this while swaddled in her crib). Ever since, she needs to be put down very drowsy (practically asleep), is constantly stirring, and has been waking every 1-3 hours.
She’s had no interest in the pacifier to help her back to sleep at night, so I’ve ended up feeding her nearly every time. She does eat, but I can’t imagine that she really “needs” to so frequently. I initially thought that it would just take a few days to get used to having both arms free, but it does not seem to be getting better.
Because we’ve already started the swaddle weaning, I don’t think we should go back. So...I’m at the point now that I *might* want to explore sleep training although I don’t think I could ever do a full-blown CIO.
I’d love to hear about you’re your sleep training experience; any advice and words of wisdom is appreciated. I’m getting to be one tired mama!
I have heard that Ferber's book (Solve your Child's Sleep Problems) is really helpful and is not really harsh at all...I keep meaning to pick up a copy!
