Do you think sleeping in separate beds (like one person in the guest room) occasionally helps or hurts your relationship, or does it not have an affect at all?

I'm an incredibly light sleeper and SO is a heavy sleeper, who also tends to twitch, thrash, snore, and talk in his sleep. Some nights I don't get much sleep because I wake up whenever he moves or makes a noise. Then I end up frustrated with him and cranky because I'm tired.

We've taken to sleeping in separate beds if I've had a particularly rough night the night prior. I think it helps because I'm in a much better mood and therefore much more pleasant with him if I've gotten a good night's sleep and I don't resent him for keeping me up. He says he doesn't mind doing it because he knows how important it is for me to be well-rested.

Some people seem to think this could result in a lack of intimacy or create distance, but I think it helps us!
