Anyone ever put their LO's PNP or crib in the bathroom while vacationing? I know this probably sounds crazy, but I think it's our only option if we want to stay up past 8pm (our resort only has studio rooms - no suites). If you've done it, I'd love to hear how it worked out!

@blackbird: I sneak in! Or hold it. She won't normally wake up if I pop in her room to grab something at night. But, she will definitely have a hard time getting to sleep (and staying asleep) if she's in the room with us.

what we've done in this situation is to lay down on the bed and have the room quiet/dim until she's asleep. Once she's asleep we can move about and have the tv on without it disturbing her.

We've used the bathroom twice. Once when we were staying at a friend's house so we had access to another bathroom if needed. The second time was at a hotel. So no, I don't think it's crazy!
We were recently on vacation for a week and stayed in a studio room that had 2 queen beds. We put the pnp between the bed and far wall, placed a chair in front of the pnp and draped the extra duvet as a curtain so he felt like he had his own little space. He never had problems falling asleep for naps or nights but the room was dark and quiet.
After LO was in bed we either went on the balcony or read on our phones in the dark.

We stayed in a studio room with LO last week, and we put her PnP half in the closet, half sticking out into the room. There was a little hallway/nook, but she could still see us. It took us about an hour longer to get her to sleep, because she thought it was a super fun sleepover, but she did eventually go down fine and STTN. We were able to use the bathroom, which was about 5 feet away, and watch tv. She's a heavy sleeper!

@MamaG: We've done this before too and it has worked for us. We've also draped a towel or other blanket over the side (outside of bed, not inside), or strung up a blanket close to the PnP so LO can't see us while falling asleep.
I guess it depends on how big the bathroom is if you can fit her PnP in there?

We've put Lo in the bathroom every time we've traveled and haven't gotten a suite. We put a white noise machine in there as well, and we've been able to brush teeth and pee very quietly. We just can't flush! Or you can go use the bathro in the lobby or something.

This is frikkin genius. We have suffered through so many out of town trips due to the sharing a room issue.

We haven't used the bathroom. We have used the walk in closet a few times with great success. I think both are great options while traveling - you gotta improvise on vacation!

We have! We just go downto the public bathroom near the front desk. Easy peasy.

We put her in the walk in closet over Christmas and she slept great. We haven't put her in the bathroom but I would. We recently stayed two nights in a hotel, 2 full size beds, and put her pnp between the far bed and the wall, and draped a blanket partially over the top while she fell asleep (but while we were awake and watching it). It was darker and quieter in there for her and we could watch tv on low volume, read, talk quietly. We always bring the sound machine. We moved the blanket when we went to bed, for safety.

Yes! I've done this several times and LO went to sleep fine!
It helps if you can get a handicapped accessible room - the bathrooms are generally much larger. (I'd feel bad taking the only accessible room... but I don't feel as bad if they have several available).
I've also put LO in the hallway leading to the bathroom and hung up a sheet.
Alternately, you could try hanging out outside the room until she falls asleep. I sit in the hall with the door barely cracked open and play on my phone or close myself in the bathroom and take a bath until LO goes to bed... Once she's asleep, you might be able to sneak back in and watch tv on low if you have her as far from the tv as possible. Bringing a sound machine helps a lot as well.

When we were younger and traveled as a family, one of us would always push a cot into the hotel bathroom for privacy/ quiet, etc.... Worked out great for us!

Actually I do the opposite!
I keep LO in the room and I hang out in the bathroom until she is asleep - once she is asleep I can read or watch tv in bed -
We're going to do this when we travel in the next month or two! Not ideal but we didn't want to pay so much extra for suites!

Thanks for the input everyone! It's good to know that other people have done it & it worked out. Glad for the other suggestions/advice as well. Our parents are also going, so if it's an emergency I can always run over to their room for the bathroom.

@photojane: adjoining rooms! We put R to sleep in our room, hang out in my in laws room and then sneak back into our room when we're ready for bed!

I really enjoyed reading everyone's comments, as I wonder how others did it for those that have LOs that usually sleep in their own room/crib. At this 1 hotel, the walk-in-closet was huuuge, so she slept in the pnp in there. We did have her in the bathroom once at a vacation home we stayed at, but it was rather echoey. So we have found that putting the crib off to the side/corner, creating a barrier or putting up a blanket to create a space, helped alot. When our LO turned 3ish, she was fine sleeping anywhere, which is nice. Now that we have an 18 month old, trying to keep our now 4YO from waking the baby up is our additional challenge.
