Is it okay for baby to sleep with pacifier in mouth? Every time I go in to check on little one while sleeping the pacifier is in his mouth -- so I will take it out and then obviously he wakes up. I heard it could cause ear infections if left in the mouth ??

I babysat a little girl that always had to have hers to sleep, she didn't seem to have an inordinate amount of ear infections.

@lunalove20: I hadn't heard that... both my kids usually slept with their pacifiers, although it would fall out in the middle of the night usually.

I've been told sleeping with a pacifier reduces SIDS. That outweighs ear infections in my mind.
Even a quick google search only links "continuous" pacifier use with increased ear infections. So I wouldn't worry too much unless your kid ALWAYS has the pacifier in their mouth.

My DS slept with his pacifier. When he was little little it would fall out and he wouldn't care, but as he got older he made sure to keep it in pretty much all the time and we never had a problem with ear infections, I think he had one or two during his 3 year pacifier use.

@lunalove20: ear infections are more common in children that use a pacifier. It doesnt matter whether asleep it awake. My kids always slept with their pacifiers til out fell out

My 1st LO slept with a pacifier from like 9 months to almost 2. I've read that it actually reduces the risk of SIDS as well. Never heard of it being a risk for ear infections!

I wouldn’t worry. Both my kids loved their paci for sleeping until at least 2. One had a ton of ear infections, one had zero, there are a lot of other factors as well.

I’ve never heard of this!
My first slept with a paci until he was 3yo. He’s never once had an ear infection! (Knocks on all wood). Which is crazy since my husband gets them several times a year, including every single time he flies or has a bad cold. -

My daughter had/still has one constantly at age 2. She’s never ever had an ear infection.
My son never had a soother. He’s had about 10’ear infections. I’ve never heard of any relation.

Both of my kids sleep/slept with their binks. No issues with ear infections.
