How many sleepsacks should I purchase in each size? What brands do you like best?
Also, what do they wear under the sleep sacks? Should I buy sleep clothing as well?

I like the halo sleep sacks and we put cotton sleepers or pjs under them. I think a lot depends on what temp you keep your house. I wouldn't buy many ahead of time becaus you don't know how fast your LO will grow and you might want heavier weight pjs or fleece sacks when its colder.
As a newborn we swaddled him in jammies.

I have 4 Halo sacks and started at size M (she was swaddled before then.) We dont put them on her now that its warm, but she wore them for about 8 months. She still fots in them. She wears regular pjs underneath.

@Weagle: I know I sound like a complete idiot, but do you swaddle over a onsie or over jammies when they are newborns? What kind of jammies should I get? I'm such a newb!

@rahlyrah: Unless it was really hot, we did swaddle over a onesie. I'm having a hard time remembering now, but I think we swaddled in a onesie and socks. We used the Miracle Blanket, so there was lots of fabric to keep her cozy.

We use the Halo Sleepsacks for our LO. We have two in each size, and that works well for us. Underneath the sleepsack, we put him in cotton sleepers or pjs.

We have 2 halo sleep sacks. We are in Florida and it's usually hot here, so she only wears a sleep sack and diaper unless its cold.

Forgot to say we had two in each size which works for us. As a newborn he had zip up sleep and plays (basically footed pajamas that are all one piece) under his swaddle. He had a huge head and I didn't put him in onesies or anything I had to drag over his head until he was 2 months and was less wobbly.

We love the A&A sleep sacks. The cozy ones (which are 4 layers of fabric). We live in hota** FL and they're just the right weight. We have one of the regular ones (1 layer of fabric) and we just use that one sometimes during the day for naps when the house is warmer bc sunlight is coming in everywhere and we keep the thermostat a couple of degrees higher. She has been wearing PJs under it but we are now going w LS Carter's onesies.

As a newborn my LO slept in footed sleepers and a swaddle (miracle blanket or halo). Around 3 mo she switched to 2-piece pjs or sleepers and a Grobag sleep sack. They are awesome but a little pricey... I borrowed the ones I have from my sister... she got them for her LO on ebay. They come in different weights but are kind of like sleeping bags. We normally keep the AC on at night, so it works well. I do have one Halo sleep sack that I sometimes pair with terry pjs, but I still worry about her being cold with the AC on, so I don't use the Halo one much except for naps during the day when the AC isn't on.
ETA: I needed 3 newborn sleep swaddles, 2-3 medium swaddles, and 2-3 Grobags.

We use Grobag in the winter and Babydeedee for both winter and summer (but in the different fabrics). Love them!

ideally i would have 2 or maybe 3 in each size (a small size for 3-6months, a big size for 6-12 months, and a huge one for 1-3T), but we only had one for each size and survived. i just did laundry while he was awake -- it didn't get too dirty.
for our 6-12 month size we have a long sleeved sleep sack since it was winter here. i love sleep sacks!

Two in each size is plenty in my opinion. We use the halo cotton

We did:
-Swaddle me's until 4 months (2 in cotton, 1 fleece)
-Baby deedee sleep nest during winter 6-12 months
-a&a sleep sack for spring and summer 12 months
They are pricey so we just bought one and wash it often. She has her bath right before bed so they don't get that dirty.

We swaddled using A&A blankets until 4 weeks.
Starting around 4 weeks, we used a Halo sleep sack in Fleece for the winter and a cotton one for the summer. They are kind of pricey so we only have 1 in each size. Since she doesn't spit up they don't really get dirty. We dress her in a onesie and cotton footed sleeper underneath.

We started with the Woombie and moved onto the convertible Woombie as a sleep sack. It seemed like an easier transition for her. We have had two in each size which works just fine for us.

My rule of thumb is two of everything....if you have a middle of the night sickness or diaper leak, the last thing you want to do is be caught without a change.
