I'm pretty sure I"m just being paranoid, but thought I'd look to you guys to see if I should contact someone for help...

Thea is 1 week old. She has been a slow eater from the start. My milk came in on day 3. She takes upwards of an hour to finish nursing each time. She sucks vigorously for a few minutes, but then the rest of the time it is long pauses, followed by a few seconds of sucking/swallowing. I try all the tricks- switching sides frequently, change her diaper in between sides, stroke her feet, rub her head, take deep breaths- they all work but she will quickly resume her pattern.

She does seem to be becoming a little bit more efficient as of last night/today, but it still seems to take her a really long time and she requires a lot of waking/nudging to actively suck.

The reason I think I"m just being paranoid is because her diaper output is totally what it should be. That's the best measure of whether or not she is getting enough, right?

Should I contact a lactation consultant?
