We are going to a wedding today. The ceremony starts at 4:30. The invitation says that "small plates" will be swerved at the reception. Does this mean there's no dinner and it's more just apps? I'm trying to decide if I need to eat up before I go.

Hard to say; but I would assume small plates would be more like heavy apps than larger dinner portion sizes. Heavy apps/small plates are often plenty of food though! It's difficult because they could be small plates of hearty food....or not!
We technically served "small plates" at our wedding, but it was a plated 4 course dinner, following a heavy apps cocktail hour. So, PLENTY of food!!
I wouldn't eat beforehand, but I've also been to weddings where not eating backfired on me!

I think that means no dinner but apps are my favorite and I can fill up on those. If you know the couple has different food tastes than you, I'd eat before.

Haha yes I'd imagine that to mean tapas. More than just passed hors doeuvres but less than a plated meal (in size, not in quantity).
I would imagine they'll have enough for people to feel "full", when I think of tapas/small plates it's still enough for a full meal, just lots of little options instead of one big option. But can't hurt to have a little snack first (says the 25 weeks pregnant lady

I think I get more full with heavy apps type food than a plated dinner bc the selection is bigger and I love to graze all night. I'm sure there will be more than enough food that you won't need to eat beforehand. Also I don't ever like to get too full bc I need to save room for cake!

It's probably enough heavy appetizer type dishes to fill you up. It it were me I would pack a high protein granola bar type snack in my purse just in case. I get migraines if I don't eat enough substantial food during the day and wouldn't want to risk it.

I had friends that did this, it was interesting! There was basically a table with 4 or 5 different small plate entrees set out, and you took what you wanted. There was definitely enough to take more than one.

I think you will probably be fine, but I would put a Luna bar in my purse! And at least they told you ahead of time.

I agree that I'd pack something. Like a protein bar and an apple. I wouldn't eat before hand. I'd hate to turn up full if there's plenty and it's amazing!
