We had a huge bag for our last kiddo (24”) and got tired very quickly of carting it around. Now that our second one is on the way we want something more manageable. Any recommendations for size and or brand of diaper bags that would work well?

I’m on my 3rd kid and I’ve been throwing a few diapers and a small pack of wipes in my purse when we go out. I’m over the diaper bag 3 kids in!

I use a Ju Ju Be Be Light as my purse, and I would throw in a diaper clutch, a bottle, and a sleeper. I only used a real diaper bag because of the insulated pockets since DD was formula fed after six weeks.

@matador84: This reminds me of the Luvs commercials where the FTM takes everything under the sun with her and then for the 2nd one she grabs a couple diapers and a handful of puffs.
I’d like to think I’ll be that chill with my 2nd, but I’m such a planner and worrier, I can’t imagine just taking diapers and wipes. But I would absolutely love that, because as much as I want to be prepared it’s also really stressful.

I bought a set of wet bags from amazon. They were a no name brand. Both are pretty large and simple and have two pockets.
I'm planning on keeping one for the new baby and one for the toddler. The larger one will be for the newborn. I'm thinking diapers, wipes, swaddle, change of clothes, bottle or boob stuff, and an extra shirt for me. I primarily use the stroller as our mode of transportation so they both will live in the underbasket.

95% of the time I just use a small planet wise wet/dry bag. It holds 3-4 cloth diapers plus snacks and clothes. It's probably 12x 8. When I need something bigger I use DH's LLBean backpack from high school. It's way better than any diaper bag I've seen because there's lots of pockets and it is super comfortable to wear

I throw a couple diapers and wipes in my purse. Early newborn days I'd have a diaper bag in the car with extra clothes just in case (for me too because she was a barter). I travel light. I hate the frazzled feeling of lugging a bag and baby around.
If we are going somewhere for a day or something I'll throw the diaper bag into the bottom of the stroller. It just sits idle in my car these days. Theres diapers, wipes, sunscreen, maybe an outfit in it?
I bought my daughter a gift shop outfit while on vacation this summer because I did my diaper and wipes in the purse trick thinking we were past the blow out stage So maybe don't take my advice.

I'm still growing my first kiddo but I plan on using my medium sized purse with a few wet bags, fingers crossed it will be sufficient!
ETA, I also plan on having an emergency stash of things in my car, extra clothes, blanket, extra diapers and wipes etc.

I usually have my main big diaper bag in the car, and then 1-2 diapers and wipes in my purse. I actually have a “playground purse” that is a crossbody bag and just has room for diapers, wipes, keys, a credit card and my ID. I mostly take my playground purse everywhere and leave the big diaper bag (with extra diapers, wipes, clothes, bibs, sunscreen, meds, hats, etc.).
If we’re taking the stroller I’ll add a water cup and a snack for the toddler to the stroller.

When forced to go light (I'm an overpacker), I carried a normal backpack - like the cheap small eastbay ones. I kept a small packing cube filled with a few diapers, a travel pack of wipes, a chux pad, ziploc bags for dirty diapers, and a sleeper (and that could be thrown in a large purse if needed). I packed a clean bottle, a Swell bottle with warm water, and a to-go packet of formula if I didn't want to nurse. A cloth diaper as a burp cloth and muslin.

Don't know if you travel by car but we just had a normal sized diaper bag (le sport sac brand) packed with everything and left it next to the car seat. On me I had an extra diaper, wipes, and a paci.

Another vote for regular diaper bag left in the car and then a couple diapers and small package of wipes in whatever purse I'm carrying.
We have a diaper bag backpack and it's pretty nice because it's super comfy to wear if necessary, and it's neutral so my husband wears it no problem.

I have a Fjallraven Totepack #1 that I have used as my diaperbag since Baby 3 was born (before that actually...when I was preg with him!). It's awesome for me b/c I'm fairly minimalist in what I take out with us (gallon ziplock with 2-3 diapers, a spare onesie, and wipes), and I like it enough to use it even without kids out and about with me.
I also have a medium-sized Madewell purse that I can throw the ziploc & wipes in, too. But I mostly use the Fjallraven now since it converts to a backpack.
But I'm not one who needs ALL THE POCKETS or ALL THE ORGANIZATION either.

I kept a diaper clutch with me at all times, it had 2 diapers, a burp cloth, a travel pack of wipes and folded out into a changing pad.

i just used a fjallraven kanken backpack for my second. my toddler needed more junk than my newborn (snacks, water bottles, etc).

I'm the sort of person who likes to be prepared for any situation, but hated carrying a heavy bag. A backpack worked great for me - I could carry everything I wanted to have handy (including a water bottle for me!) and still have both hands free. My LO turns 3 next week and I'm still carrying it!

I didn't really use one second time around. I kept wipes and diapers in my purse and a stash in the car with a spare change of clothes and a changing lad I'd just go grab or change in the car if needed.

With 2, I now pack my diaper bag but usually leave it in the car and just bring along wipes/hand sanitizer.

@tillma: After having my second I switched to a bin of extras in the back of the car and variable amounts of stuff in either a diaper bag or purse depending on where we were going.
