What is your favorite smoothie recipe? I have been craving them lately but haven't branched out from the banana/ strawberry basic one.

I eat them all the time these days myself. I don't do anything too crazy with my smoothies: orange juice, banana, vanilla yoghurt and frozen berries. Once in a while I'll toss in some oats or chia. But typically berry and banana are my fav!!

My usual mix contains the following:
-unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-some OJ
-vanilla protein powder
-plain, full-fat Greek yogurt
-chia seeds
-mixed berries
-a frozen banana
-baby spinach
Usually I make enough to two smoothies so I have breakfast for two days

@hergreenapples: does it keep well for the second day?
I like an orange a half a banana several strawberries and a cup of kale.

@MrsH: Yep, I just cover it and keep it in the fridge. The colour changes a little thanks to oxidation, but it tastes just as good. I just give it a stir before I drink it.

@hergreenapples: Talk to me about the spinach... I've heard you don't actually taste it. True or urban legend designed to ruin my delicious fruity breakfast?

Mine is frozen banana, strawberries, and blueberries, a scoop of plain greek yogurt, and orange tangerine juicy juice! Plus a few ice cubes, because I like my smoothies thick and cold.

@MrsH: I always use orange juice, but for some reason it's never occurred to me to use an actual orange!

I'm really not a fan of smoothies, or fruit in general (weird, I know) but I love iced tea "smoothies" with crushed ice and/or milk! On weekends with the summer I always make Matcha smoothies.

@Mrs. Chalk: I just got a vitamix and saw it in the demo. A lot of the good stuff is in the pith

@MrsH: I'm totally trying that tomorrow. Also, umm, I had to go look up the word pith.

My daily green smoothie is: almond milk, chia seed, spinach, berries, kale and bananas. It's so good and so filling!

@Mrs. Chalk: the peel is good too but I would not use it unless you buy organic oranges.
GOLD / apricot / 315 posts
@MrsH: you are blowing my mind all over the place with this. Seriously, you could use the peel?? (We sometimes have organic oranges, sometimes not. But still!!).
How do you like your vitamix, by the way? I find the demos totally mesmerizing.

Is it just me or is anyone else going to go make themselves a smoothie now? Yummers!
@hergreenapples: I tried adding spinach a few weeks ago when I was in my morning sickness stage. I couldn't eat any veggies so I thought hiding them in a smoothie would help. Unfortunately I couldn't get past the colour of the smoothie. I'm willing to give it another chance now that I am feeling better!

@Mrs. Chalk: yes, the peel has lots of vitamin C! The demo guy made a sorbet with a whole lime he just cut off the ends where the stem would have been.
I LOVE the vitamix everything I have made it in it so far has been smooth. I had been using a kitchen aid blender and it would leave little chunks of stuff. The vitamix makes it silky smooth. I wanted one for a wile and when I saw the 150 off at Costco I couldn't pass it up.

DH makes smoothies all the time. He blends together milk, orange juice, bananas, and berries (whichever we have - strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and/or raspberries). He also adds some honey or splenda and cinnamon.

I put milk, mango orange juice, spinach, strawberries, frozen mango, and chia seeds in mine.

Coconut milk, banana, frozen blueberries, mango or pineapple, chia seeds, flax meal, and kale. DH and LO love their green smoothies in the morning. I also recently bought a Vitamix and it's amazing!!

I keep mine simple. Frozen strawberries or raspberries (which is nice so I don't have to add ice), milk, and a tablespoon of peanut butter.

I buy frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and pineapple, and mix it up depending which combo I'm in the mood for. And I always add a banana. No milk or oj, I like just the fruit!
When I buy my smoothie from my favorite street vendor, it's blueberry, banana and mango.

We have smoothies every weekday morning. Strawberries, blueberries (sometimes raspberries and peaches - depends what frozen fruits were on sale), a banana and apple juice and ice. So delicious! My husband makes them!

Outside of the home - strawberry banana. Can't go wrong and I love that combination. Once in awhile I'll go on the wild side and order something with tropical with like pineapples and oranges. Ha!
At home - green smoothie with Spinach, frozen bananas, greek yogurt and soy milk.
@hergreenapples: How do you keep your green smoothie from thickening the next day? If I let it sit for more than like 20 minutes, it starts to get thick and heavy. No bueno! =(

I personally don't like banana in mine, i feel like it's too overpowering.
I usually mix one frozen fruit (right now it's mango, but i also use peaches or berries), one apple, part of a grapefruit, greek yogurt, kale, OJ and fresh lemon juice (i juice a bunch of lemons over the weekend and use it all week - I've heard lemon juice helps your body to absorb nutrients and also has other healing properties, esp for cancer patients)
the smoothies are green due to the kale (which you really can't taste!) and my coworkers call them my guacamole smoothies, haha!

Everyone's smoothies sound so good! I drink a mostly vegetable smoothie... not so good, but SUPER healthy!
1 banana
1 orange
1/2 beet
1/2 cucumber
1 carrot
1 stalk celery
1 mushroom
2 cups spinach
1 tbsp flax
1 tbsp hemp
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp cinnamon

@Alivoo01: I suppose it thickens minimally, but not very much. I give it a good stir the next morning. If yours thickens a lot I would just thin it out with a little extra almond milk (or whatever liquid you use in your smoothies).
