WTF? She sounds awful. That warrants no response. Were you planning on getting the kids gifts? My mantra with my only niece is "thoughtful and modest." You aren't Santa, and you're not their parents. There's nothing wrong with splurging on their gifts of you wanted to, but the expectation that you will is absurd.

I would respond and say "thanks for the suggestions, we will keep them in mind when shopping" and get something else you know they will like. My sister does this and it pisses me off, I will pick out gifts for my niece and nephew thank you very much. do not send me links!

Ugh, how obnoxious! My SIL gets on my nerves, too, and I understand the delicate balance of trying to figure out how to not give into her demands and respect your H's relationship with her. I would try to have a calm conversation with him about the fact that he shouldn't give into these kind of things, especially after the way she acted over Thanksgiving, because it just reinforces that behavior. Does this stuff bother him as well?

I have an Amazon wish list for my LO but that's only there in case someone wants suggestions. And has plenty of books and small things <$20 so people don't feel obligated to spend much.

I'd still tell her we got something else, and that DH was not aware. Either way I wouldn't be spending that kind of money on the kids. Have you just addressed it with her head on? I mean until you have confirmed you are coming, I don't know why she would tell the kids that. If she had really ticked me off, I'd probably had responded with "oh, thanks for the suggestions, does this mean are we on speaking terms again since you have ignored me for the last 2 months? Or did you just want to try to tell me what to buy your kids?"

@alohaorchid: Oh my freaking goodness. I would totally not play into her games. It's not punishing the kids because it's not like they would know. I totally agree with @shootingstar: and say, "DH, didn't know I had already bought them different gifts." (Sorry but not sorry.) Is this the same SIL who was freaked out at the thought of your dogs being around for Christmas? So, you can't have your dogs but you can be bossed around by her in regards to gift giving? HELL NAW.

I'd let her know that you will gift them something you pick, so if she wants them to have those gifts she needs to put them back on her shopping list.
