Ok so I'm getting a new phone and I want to avoid the .. OMG I have no space on my phone because I have 10,000 pictures issue..
do I back them up on the computer? Then where do I put them?
someone smarter than I, please help

Back up to an external hard drive!

I would do both an external hard drive and some type of cloud. Google drive is a good one!

We backup to Amazon Cloud automatically. If you have prime, it's free. Unlimited.

@mfa_lady: If it's like dropbox, you would get to keep your photos but not be able to upload more. I'm not 100% on that with amazon, though.

Use Dropbox!! We pay for a subscription (9.99 a month, but there's a free part, too, just less storage), and the pictures upload automatically from my phone. Then I can clear them from my phone. My mom's phone and DH's phone upload there, as well.

I upload photos to my computer once a week and then upload those photos to Shutterfly. Our computer also automatically backs up to an external hard drive. Those photos ain't going nowhere.
ETA-By doing this I am able to keep about 1G free on my phone at most times.

I do at least a cloud and computer, and I'm waiting on an external hard drive before I delete them. I had to get a new phone because I'd used up all my storage (and I was due for an upgrade).
