I love it!

I don't have a huge drive to be as professionally successful as possible, I want a true work life balance that doesn't leave me feeling inadequate at home or in the office. I'm completely happy to not put that kind of pressure on myself.

I think we all want acknowledgement that no matter what we do all day, it isn't easy and it isn't for everyone.

I don't want "it" all, I never have. I just want what is right for my family. I want my friends to have what is right for their families. No name calling. No higher than thou attitudes.

I loved this.

One thing I never got about the conversation surrounding "having it all" is that I don't know a single person, man or woman, who does. Dads who get to the tippy top of their career ladders may have an easier time than moms due to maternity policy and sexism, and other things that absolutely need to change, but many of the men don't get as much time with their families or personal leisure activities as they want. Same with women. In the end, I don't think anyone can *really* have it all the way that many popular articles in the past couple of years have talked about it. There is an opportunity cost for every decision, you can't do all things at once.

Amen! Loved this and can so relate. I'm perfectly content with my middle of the road life.

Yep. I've always said that I want to have a job that I love and that's meaningful (which I am very grateful to have, on both counts), but that I can also leave behind at the end of the day.

@Revel: @MsLipGloss: And it's not just female lawyers either. DH is a lawyer and, with seven years of practice under his belt, recently left private practice for an in-house job. We were chatting with a lot of his law school friends recently and almost ALL of them, male and female, even those who we thought would make partner at some of the big firms, have either moved to smaller firms or in-house jobs. Law is just ridiculous sometimes in terms of the demands on your time and lack of work-life balance.
