I'd have them come in, let the toddler go insane around them because he is overtired, and make them hold the now screaming baby while I rummaged around for non-existent change to buy tickets. Then explain I don't want the tickets, sorry. Passive-aggressive revenge sometimes has it's place

That's a crazy time of day to be selling raffle tickets! I would tell them they need to be more considerate of people and children who might be going to bed.

Aw hell no. I could see my husband giving then a piece of his mind (he usually answers the door).

Where are their manners? I'd let them know it's too late to be selling anything and that they should always avoid my house now that they woke up my kids. I'd also get their names and school and report them

Kids or no kids, I would be telling them that 9:30pm on a school/workday is absolutely an inappropriate time to be canvasing. Not only would they be disturbing people, they will also be less inclined to buy what they're selling.

We don't have a doorbell, thank god, but I'm worried about Halloween because of loud knocking and also forth of July because of idiots and fireworks/guns.

I would politely ask them not to come by after dark. A lot of kids have sports and activities after school, so it makes it hard for them to this stuff earlier in the evening. Who knows, maybe they were trying to be respectful by waiting until after dinner time. I wouldn't assume the worst of them.

@catomd00: I'm with you! I'd let them know that it's a little late to be going door to door, and ask them to come back. I'd be polite about it though. In our neck of the woods, it's literally just gotten dark around 9 in the summer.

Seems pretty late for door to door sales!! I know HS kids have lots of activities and homework so maybe she just came as soon as she can but I don't really think its a good idea for a young girl to be out alone at 9 p.m. but that's just me.

Ha, a guy knocked on my door last night at 8:50. He was selling candy bars.

@BabyBoecksMom: I guess I don't see the point in attempting to get them in trouble with the school (which I don't think would happen anyway since they weren't really doing anything wrong) when you could simply let them know yourself that it's pretty late to be going door to door and use the moment to kindly teach/remind them. I doubt anyone would give you their name if you threatened to call the school. Just seems unnecessary for a one time
Thing, to me but to each their own.

@regberadaisy: It's not that I don't care if someone woke up my kid, but I can't expect people to know that my kid is sleeping at a specific time, or that he can be easily woken by a doorbell ring. It's like the UPS or postal service ringing your doorbell at 1pm in the afternoon. He has no clue that there is a baby in the house, and that's not an unreasonable hour to ring a doorbell, yet I hear people complaining about it all the time.

Yes, I do think that 9:10 is late, but maybe they lost track of time. I'm sure they didn't mean to wake up your kids!
