Before I invest in essentially a $20 dog toy I want to hear some reviews, So, love it? Hate it? Do you view it as a necessity? Thanks.

LOOOOOOVE IT! it's a MUST buy!! Sophie is AWESOME. She squeaks, is easy to grasp, has tons of features that are biteable! She's so easy to clean too. Buy it!!

We loved it!
But I should note that there are 134 1-star reviews on Amazon, many of which mention that the legs can be a choking hazard:
We let our kids use Sophie, but only under supervision.

I've gotten them for all of my girlfriends with kids and they seem to be a hit.

@Green Thumb: I just love that you called it a "dog toy." That's all I have to offer this thread!

Several of my friends with dogs have actually warned me against getting Sophie. Their dogs loved Sophie as much as their babies, and $20 is a lot to spend on what may become a dog chew toy if you aren't careful I'm still debating whether or not to get one for LO. Curious to see everyone's responses...

My LO never wanted anything to do with it but I have seen my niece chomp on it like a maniac. My LO never liked any other teethers either, though.

My son loves Sophie. He always goes back to that giraffe over other teething toys. To me all toys should be used with supervison. I've seen my son choke on his own fingers so really, I don't see the toy as the danger others might. We did have to convince my dog that Sophie wasn't a squeak toy for her but she is that way with all toys.

We love it. She doesn't take a paci but will naw on Sophie for a while. I do see how a leg could down the throat but it's not really choking because it doesn't get lodged down there. It more of can trigger a gag reflex.
My husban and I both agree it sounds stupid to spend $20 on a river squeaky toy but it's not one of those finicky things it's actually really well designed.

My niece loves it...my LO isn't old enough to use it/enjoy it quite yet. All of my friends like it too. My dog has stolen it away from my niece on a couple occasions so definitely supervise if you have a dog...they are easily confused.

LO is 4 months old and enjoy chomping down on Sophie. She's a keeper! I received mine as a gift so the $20 pricetag didn't affect me.

So, why is Sophie better than a $2 freezable teething ring? I've seen it and it just looks like an expensive toy to me? Or dog toy.

@mediagirl: Don't be knockin' Sophie... her powers are formidable!
Seriously though, we invested in a Sophie and Charlie truly loved her. She was definitely worth it for us...

We have two, LO doesn't seem interested in it as a teether. I had to have it because giraffes are cool and Sophie is a cult classic, but I could have put that $40 to better use!

I've been looking at Sophie. Never understood why it had such a cult following, but I guess we'll try it too!

parents like that it's labeled as non-toxic, being made of natural rubber and food paint... I think that partially explains for the higher price tag (compared to a cheap teething toy that may have BPA or lead paint or whatever else...)
Also, since she's a cute giraffe with an adorable name, she sort of has this "stuffed animal" quality to her... like, she can be your baby's first buddy, or lovey, in a sense. Other teethers lack such sentimental value... I think that's why it's a popular baby shower gift too... it's all in the marketing...

My daughter likes her. She was supposed to be for Christmas, but I can't help myself.LOL She's been chewing on her since last night, when I opened her.....My SO is going to kill me!LOL
@NYCaliMama: That's exactly why I bought her! The paint, rubber etc and she comes with a little story.lol

We didn't register for Sophie but we got 2 at our baby shower! The regular Sophie and the smaller version. We are currently hiding them from our pup!
