Sorry for the poop talk... but Charlie pooped in the potty tonight!
His potty training has been going well since we started on Saturday, but mostly he's focused on peeing in the potty. Every time he has to poop, he's snuck off someone and gone in his diaper.
Well tonight I was putting him down to sleep and he said that his stomach hurt. He hadn't gone since last night, so I thought he might be hinting that he wanted to use the potty. I asked him point blank though a few times, but he said he just wanted to pee in the potty. He's been much better at communicating when he needs to pee versus when he needs to poop.
Well eventually I guess the stomach pains got worse, and he finally said he was ready to poop in the potty. So I ran and got the portable potty and brought it into his bedroom, and sure enough he was able to go! Halfway through using it, he panicked and said that he wanted to put his diaper back on and poop in his diaper. I guess he's just used to going standing up? But I held his hand and he fought through it, and he was able to go in his potty.
I told him he got an "A+" and that he was a big boy now and that he was Prince of the Potty! (That's a book we've been reading every night for the last few weeks, to prepare him.) He was so happy! He passed out happily shortly afterward...
One interesting note about potty training: when we're putting him down to sleep, he now greatly prefers to pee in his potty over peeing in his overnight diaper. When he was going to sleep tonight, he asked a few times to take off his diaper so that he could pee in the potty. We accommodated him, but I hope he doesn't start asking to pee as a way to extend the bedtime ritual. We'll see how that goes, but would love any advice from you guys on how you managed that part of the potty training process.
Thanks to everyone for your support during Charlie's potty training! He's had a few accidents, but overall it's been an exciting process. And wow, I can't believe that he might be potty trained soon!
