Help me kick of the naming debate with DH
Our last name is Spanish and our daughter's name is Ariela.
We are very drawn to Spanish and Italian names. We loved Leonardo and Rafael but my BIL beat us to them with his boys
Any ideas?

We have a Spanish last name and we are naming our son Marco. It's of Italian origin, but lots of people in Latin American countries use the name so I think it will sound good with our last name and his half Mexican heritage.
Other names to consider off the top of my head
Diego
Mauricio
Dominic

Emiliano
Claudio
Gabriel
Julian
Antonio
Agustin
Javier
Lorenzo
Those are just off the top of my head. I think about this a lot since my hubs is from South America. His name is on the list, can you guess which one ?

@Mrs. Jacks: Francisco/Francesco is DHs "family name".
DH was pretty set on an Italian name if we had a boy. We discussed Luca, Dominic, and Angelo. I like Emilio, Giovanni, and Vittorio.

I have a Gabriel and a Leonardo. Are you picky about how it's pronounced in English? I am so that removes tons of names for me. Some of the ones I like are Antonio, Christian, Giovanni, Roberto, and ricardo.

My dad is Ricardo. Many people turn it into Dick. DO NOT choose Ricardo!

@MrsKRB: Joseph is a lovely name
@lady grey: I love both of them but DH doesn't
@Mamasig: I probably should consider how it sounds in a board Yorkshire accent (think downstairs Downton Abbey) as it takes the romance out of the names ending with 'o'

@oliviaoblivia: really? My husband is a ricardo. No one has ever said that! They usually shorten to Ric or Ricky or Cardo.

@oliviaoblivia: Ha ha ha, I am glad you pointed that out because I do like Ricardo a lot actually.

@Mamasig: my grandfather was Cardo so his family came up with "Dicky Boy".... My poor dad!

@SLR: Aw, that is cute!
@oliviaoblivia: I think DH will actually like Ricardo! So if we name our baby that will you always think of it as Dick??? Lol. I thought Ricky was a cute nn for that.

@travelgirl1: as long as you swear as his parent to forbid the nickname Dick, I will allow my son in law to share a name with my dad.

@travelgirl1: Well, clearly your choices are Michelangelo and Donatello, to go with your BIL's family.
The only thing I don't like about Italian (I don't know if Spanish has the same issue)is G being used for a hard J sound. A lot of English speaking people seem to have trouble, knowing if it's supposed to be a soft or hard sound.

Oh and congrats on your baby boy! Was a long road for you so it's extra special! I can't wait to hear what name you choose

@Pumuckl: Felipe is cute!
@looch: Hmmmm, I don't know if Spanish has the same issue... Will ask FIL about that! Ha ha about the turtles names... DH said the same thing

@lil owl: I like Francesco a lot, just not the nn Fran. With DD we chose a name that was hard to give a nn to because we wanted people to call her by her full name.
