I saw on another thread that @Looch has watched her babysitter on the nanny cam, and that got me thinking! Do you have one, or would you? Do they know?

I'm not a nanny employer, but I am a nanny. I have no problem with working in a home that has a nanny cam. If it puts a parent at ease, then I am all for it.
Parents can take it too far though. I worked in a home a few years ago where there were nanny cams in every room of the house. I worked and stayed there from Friday morning until Sunday morning and slept in the baby's room, so there was a camera on me while I was sleeping. It was the most uncomfortable experience of my life.
If you do have nanny cams, I don't suggest going overboard like that. I could not relax the 72 hours I was there. It was hell!

We have it just in one room of the apartment, the main living area. It is out in plain sight, right on the top of the entertainment unit. It's a Foscam and we also use it for surveillance when we are out of town. I highly recommend it.

I don't see myself ever having someone we don't know watch LO, we have lots of family around us. But if we did have someone we didn't know I wouldn't mind using one. Better safe than sorry, especially when it comes to LO!

I want one to see what our dogs actually do all day long :P, but seriously, probably not. I doubt we'll ever have a nanny, but I have no interest in setting someting like that up.

@prettylizy: I'd love to see my pup too! He has seperation anxiety and goes crazy tearing apart the house when we leave. I'd like to know if it's the whole time, just the beginning, etc.

I jokingly told the hubs that I would put a secret cam in LO's stuffed toy and leave it in her room to see if the MIL plucked her out of her crib again while I was out. LOL. But no, no nanny cam for us.

@marriedandlovingit: That's a great perspective! I would hate having someone watch me while I sleep, yeesh. I was a nanny for a summer as as far as I knew, they didn't have a camera. I kind of hope not because there were certainly times when I was not as Mary Poppins as I'm sure they hoped!
@looch: Have you talked about it with your babysitter or do you just assume that she notices?
@artbee: Not to be an alarmist, but just because you know someone doesn't mean that they are a great caretaker. Unfortunately, most child abuse takes place at the hands of a family friend or relative. I am not at all suggesting that would happen - God forbid! - but I just wanted to point that out.
@prettylizy: Haha, we don't have pets yet but I can definitely see the curiosity!
@Rubies: I think I would actually be more interested in seeing what our parents did with our baby while we were away than a random babysitter...

I guess I should answer my own question, haha... I think it would certainly be very tempting, but I don't think I would feel right recording another adult without their consent, regardless of the situation. If once we have kids and we decide to have a nanny cam, then I would definitely let whoever might be on camera know about it.

Yup, my husband talked to her about it. We don't record it, but we just occasionally watch it live when she's over, only 4 hours a week. Sometimes my husband will watch for a sec to see if our son is asleep before he calls the landline too. I totally don't mind.

No nanny cam, but I'd totally get one if we left our LO with a nanny. I'd let her know we have cameras around, but wouldn't tell her where!

If we had a nanny, we definitely would!! My husband is a freak about security. When we start using baby sitters, I'm sure we'll have cameras throughout the house.

We have a wireless webcam that we bought to keep an eye on the dog and for security when we're out of town, so I'd consider using it for a nanny, if we ever had one. Definitely not in secret, though.

No, maybe I am naive but I have trusted the sitters I have hired to watch my LO and have never felt the need for a nanny cam.
