Theoretically, since we don't have any LOs yet, I would stay home if my mom/MIL couldn't because I can work from home (proposal writer/consultant HR firm), while DH is a bank manager and cannot perform his job at home.

My husband has a more lenient schedule (professor), so it’s more likely he would already have part of the day off, and I could go into work late/leave early as necessary if he had class that day instead of either of us having to take a full day off. I can work from home in a pinch, whereas he can’t teach class unless he is there, so it would depend on the specific day’s schedule. He will fill in as “back-up” more often though.

It depends on our work schedules on that particular day. Usually we split the day up 50/50 so that we can both get some work done.

DH is almost always the one to take off, though sometimes we split the day. He is required to put in 80 hours over the course of 2 weeks at his job, but he can split that up however he wants, as long as it doesn't seriously interfere with his ability to do his job. I.e., if he has to stay home with LO on Monday while I'm at work, he could go in Monday night for 2 hours, work 2 hours late on Tuesday and Wednesday, and go in for 2 hours on Saturday to make up the time.
