Hans the prince turned out to be evil? Apparently I wasn't the only one!
I guess it's like life... sometimes the prince turns out to be a jerk. Or.... maybe it was just bad writing.
Anyone else surprised when Hans turned out to be evil?

Not surprise and kind of glad he was the bad guy. I was rooting for Kristoff.

@Andrea: You got some good evil prince radar over there!

I was surprised - but I did know she was falling for Kristoff! I spoiled it for my 9 year old sister when I predicted, "they're going to fall in looooove!!" and she was like "WHAT!" haha. It was awesome.
I actually just saw this yesterday and it was so precious!
I totally loved that the true love was between family and not boy/girl. LOVED THAT!

At the beginning I thought he seemed kinda shady and was like, "Nope...he's bad. Not buying it." Then he started handing out the blankets and insisting on following Anna's orders and I was confused and thought maybe I was wrong. Then when she told him and he went in for the kiss I thought I really WAS wrong...and then, well, you guys know. Mind blown!
ETA: I disagree with the posted article though about it being needlessly upsetting for kids. I don't know, maybe I'd say to my kids early on, "Ooh, I think he's going to end up being a bad guy," so that they wouldn't be so surprised if I thought they'd be upset. But I thought it was a completely appropriate lesson in the Disney universe where girls fall into guys laps and then proclaim that they'll be married the next day. LOL

@wonderstruck: I definitely thought it was not good when they got engaged after a few hours of knowing each other! Even my 9 year old sister was like whoa, way too fast.

@Mrs. Pen: Yeah, I know she said yes, but any guy who proposes after one conversation is trouble, as far as I'm concerned.

For most of the movie I was thinking "how are they going to get rid of this Hans guy so that she can end up with Kristof?" lol

I agree with @wonderstruck, I don't think it's somehow too upsetting for kids. It's a good lesson that sometimes people who seem good are actually up to no good and if something seems to good to be true, it might not be. I think it better than Disney's usual portrayal of "love at first sight".

I had a feeling after she left him in charge that SOMETHING bad would happen. I wasn't really sure what, but I just felt like it was foreshadowing for a problem that involved him....but I thought that old crabby guy would be more of a problem for sure!

@wonderstruck: I agree that I don't see how it would totally destroy the movie for kids. I actually think it was more upsetting for adults. The 7 year old girl I babysit never once mentioned being upset over him being bad.
And I really enjoyed that her love/sacrifice for her sister is what ended up saving her, NOT the typical romantic love. I thought it was a great message!

@debbiei8: that's what I loved too. True love isn't just between a man/woman - but family, and close friends.
And my little sister (9) wasn't upset about Hans either - she liked Krisoff!

@Mrs. Pen: That was the bigger surprise for me! I was just expecting it to be a typical Disney princess movie and have the "true love's kiss" be the thing that saved her. It was a pleasant surprise

I was a little, but he seemed suspicious.
@Mrs. Pen: That love my favorite part. About fell out bawling. Probably b/c I thought about my sister.

I was not suspicious so I was really surprised. He did turn on her pretty fast. Even when I saw it the second time, I didn't see any foreshadowing. I agree that it is more true to life this way. Or at least a lesson to not fall for a guy on the first night when you are desperately hurt and needy.

Totally surprised. But I'm all about love at first sight, so that's probably why I was duped.
