Spring Into TTC! June 2014 POAS Thread

    Here's to June!

    Cycle day: CD 1

    Cycle #: 2

    Ovulation & POAS dates: O= 6/17, POAS= 6/28

    Baby #: 1

Your game plan this month: I think my O date was a little later than I thought last time, so I'm opting for a full week of EOD on either side of when I *think* I'll O, just to cover my bases.

@intotheocean: Are you still BFing? My cycles were also wonky until I weaned... not saying you can't get KU with a wonky cycle, just letting you know that wonky cycles are totally normal.

I'm *\o/* you all on, big time.

    to the new joiners!

So, I read this last night http://www.fertilityauthority.com/lifestyle/weight-and-fertility/diet-weight-and-fertility

Mainly: The power of dairy for women is most evident in the Nurse’s Health Study. Those eating a half cup of ice cream two or more times a week lessened infertility levels 38 percent more than women eating ice cream just once a week. With a few small adjustments to your daily diet, you may be able to boost your fertility and have your ice cream, too!

I *might* have just come back from my lunch break with a milkshake. Any sacrifice for the cause, right?

@MaryM: great article! When I was TTC my first, I started eating full fat dairy towards the end (I had been eating things like low fat or fat free, sugar free yogurt). After maybe 2 cycles I got pregnant. Not saying it caused me to get knocked up, but maybe it helped! (I tried for 9 cycles total).

@marym I love it! I might just have to pick up some ice cream while I'm at the grocery store today!

@MaryM: Hmmm and on the other side of that: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/277067.php
High cholesterol can be linked to infertility.
I am actually starting to wonder if maybe that could be an issue of mine? I had my cholesterol checked when I was 17 and it was high (hereditary). I wonder if I need to start a vegan diet if I don't get KU soon.

Some of the articles I read (linked to the one I posted) suggested getting more protein from plant based foods (but not soy...like beans and quinoa) and limiting red meat and poultry. So there could be something to that.

Thankfully my cholesterol has always been ok.

@KelLeeLeee: Interesting - I have high cholesterol that's hereditary also, so I'm wondering if I should crack down on my diet a little bit too. I guess the good news is that it can't hurt!

Hi everybody! I was originally on the May board, but have moved over to June because I think my O date is pretty late!

    Cycle day: Today is CD20.

    Cycle #: 2

Ovulation & POAS dates: Not sure yet!

    Baby #: 1

Your game plan this month: None really--it's not been an ideal TTC month! We've had a ton of family stress & my DH has been sick all week, so nobody's been in the mood for a lot of baby-makin'. Plus my body is playing tricks on me. I had a big temp surge yesterday (97.3 to 97.8) and today when I first tested I was back to 97.3--but my thermometer was really cold to the touch from the AC in our bedroom. Stuck it under the blanket with me for a minute, tested again, got a 97.9. Put it back on the nightstand, hit snooze, temped again when I woke up: 97.3. Wanted answers so I bought a Clearblue digital OPK this afternoon and got a peak fertility smiley face on my very first test. Oh, body, you're a prankster.

  11. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@angelachase: I think our POAS day was similar once before? I got my first OPK smiley today too.

Now I'm getting anxious for DH to get home already!!

I hope your month looks up from here!

    @Anya: LOL!! Too funny!!

I'm active on this thread because I have Pcos and I don't even think I am ovulating on my own yet, but once I have a cycle I can track/follow I'll be on here for sure! As of May 1st, DH and I are TTC! Woo hoo

    Cycle day: 17

    Cycle #: 6

    Ovulation & POAS dates: I'm pretty sure I O'ed yesterday 5/23. I had positive OPK's 5/21 and 5/22.

    Baby #: 1

Your game plan this month: de-stress! We are using a meditation app to help sleep…it's pretty good. We are just taking it easy. I'm especially trying to let the small things go and try not to get upset over the little stupid things.

Chart link: I use the kindara app and have not a clue to get a link for it…

I am going to officially join this group instead of continuing to lurk

    Cycle day: 7

Cycle #: TTC cycle#3 (have been NTNP since the end of last year)

Ovulation & POAS dates: I have weird/ long cycles so FF says ovulation around 6/6 POAS 6/22 (if I can wait that long)

    Baby #: 2

Your game plan this month: Going to try what worked for us the first time around...Digital OPKs and BD EOD around O. And try to not stress, need to have some me time and relaxing time.

    Here we go again.
    Cycle day: 2
Cycle #: Last month I said I was on cycle 3, but, I think this is actually #5. After I had my IUD removed I had one long wonky cycle with some spotting in the middle and two distinct positive OPKs about 3.5 weeks apart. I had thought at the time that I just failed to O the first time, but, now that I have more chart data to compare against, I think that spotting was a very light, short period, and that the one long cycle was two short cycles.

    Ovulation & POAS dates: O should be on the 5th, 6th, or 7th. I'll start POAS at 9dpo -- tentatively the 15th.

    Baby #1

    Game plan this month:
Mostly stuff I was already doing. CBE Advanced OPKs in the am, cheapie dip strip OPKs in the afternoon/evening. If sex just isn't going to happen, usually sweetie is up for giving me a "sample" to insert via an instead cup. Preseed.

I also am doing a few new things: I just started taking a B-complex. I figure at the very least the extra folic acid can't hurt, and maybe it could help my short luteal phase.

I need to schedule an appointment to talk about my concerns about endometriosis (and pain management for it) and talk about my luteal phase. Anybody want to be my accountability buddy to make sure I've booked that appointment by Friday?

My entire office has been sick for the past 2 weeks so of course I get sick now that I'm in my fertile window waiting for O... Ugh : ( any suggestions or advice on what to take/what not to take to avoid affecting my natural cycle at all?? I'm a fan of natural remedies, and even when avoiding pregnancy I have always disliked taking medicine. I already plan to have a spoonful of local raw honey and some tea once I get home, and maybe some chicken soup for dinner, but thought you all may have other suggestions?

@MaryM: I hope you're working it all in!

I'm cd14 here and still negative light OPKs which is a bit of a bummer becUse I'm hoping to O earlier this month. Back on my vitamins which should help. not feeling optimistic at all fr this month which is unusual because around O time I usual have some feelings of at least mild hope. We shall see though.

@lilyofthewest: I'll be your buddy! I'm going in on Wednesday for my weird periods so we can be doctor buddies. I hope you get some good answers and there is an affordable and not invasive solution for both of us.

Anyone want to take a shot at helping me interpret what is going on with my body this cycle? I honestly can't figure out if I have even Od or not! I had very steady temps and then they started fluctuating like crazy (I am wondering if that was caused by a super stressful month that included tons of travel). I normally have very recognizable EWCM, and that was also pretty iffy this month. I thought I had Od on day 18 (temp the next day was questionable--97.3 when the thermometer was sitting out in our air conditioned room, 97.9 after I stuck it under the blanket for a few mins). But, then I took a digital OPK for the hell of it and it gave me the "peak fertility" smiley on day 20! So, I really don't know what's going on. We've barely been able to DTD this month because of all the travel & then hubs got super sick this week, so I'm already mentally counting myself out, but I'm just curious.

  24. MrsKRB

    nectarine / 2465 posts

@angelachase: I'm thinking it could be cd17 based on the temp dip and other signs, but it could also be cd18

  25. angelachase

    apricot / 306 posts

@KelLeeLeee: would I get a positive/peak OPK two or three days after O, though?? (I've never used them before so I really don't know much about how they work!)

  26. nicole112

    apricot / 278 posts

@hellonheels I think I will POAS on 6/4 or 6/5. I'm going to try really really hard not to unless AF is late. I'm very pleased with our BD'ing this cycle but you just never know. Fingers crossed!

@Circusbee: try some garlic or ginger and drink a lot of tea. The antioxidants should help. Avoid all NSAIDs but if you really feel awful you can take Tylenol or anything with acetaphemine in it

Hi ladies! It's been a while since I've been on here but I'm feeling hopeful! So here goes...

    Cycle day 22

Cycle # 8 (but had Mirena IUD taken out 3 years ago)

    Ovulation date: 5/19
    POAS Date: 6/2 or 6/3

    Baby #2

I just had an HSG this month. Everything looked clear so I'm just hoping my tubes got a good flushing. Praying this is our month!!

  31. lilyofthewest

    pear / 1697 posts

@angelachase: did you only take an opk on CD 20? The CBE Advanced ones that show blank, flashing, or solid smileys aren't meant to be used on a standalone basis, only taken in sequence over several days. The regular CBE digital opks (smiley/no smiley) can, but, are still kinda tricky to interpret if you use them that way.

I would guess that you ovulated on cd 18 and the opk was picking up the tail end if your surge. My surges are pretty short and I have to test more than once a day to be sure if catching it at all. However, a lot of the ladies here get a positive opk for 2-3 days on a row. O generally happens 12-36hrs from the first opk.

Looks to me like your timing was pretty good! Fx it works out for you.

  32. MrsKRB

    nectarine / 2465 posts

@angelachase: not usually, but opks can be tricky depending on the brand and when you take them like lilyofthewest said. I would go by your cm and it looks like you timed it well!

Hi, ladies! I will likely be joining you guys very soon, just waiting for AF to start already. I saw that some of you guys were talking about CBS OPKS. Which do you prefer, the advanced digital or the regular digital. I see that the advanced digital takes a bit more planning since you can only use it once a day and have to start on a certain cycle day and the regular can be used on an as-needed basis. Anyone have experience with either one? Trying to figure out which one to get for this cycle. Thanks!

Finally got my positive OPK so I can now add myself to the list!!

    Cycle day: CD 21

Cycle #: 4 (technically the end of this cycle will be 6 months ttc)

    Ovulation & POAS dates: O= May 26/27, POAS= June 8

    Baby #: 1

Your game plan this month: Continuing to work with my naturopath with herbal supplements and acupuncture. Feeling really great about it after starting to work with her last month as I was able to knock 5 days off my 40 day cycles for the first time since going off the pill! Hoping my lady parts will smarten up as well and that I'll get a BFP this month!!
