Help! Since Sadie learned to stand, she wants to stand ALL. THE. TIME. Bath time used to be so much fun, but now it's seeming like more of a chore. Bath time is just pulling her back down and saying "No ma'am!" "No standing!" over and over and over with a little shampooing thrown in there.
What do you do to prevent standing in the tub? Is this a phase? If so, how long did it last for you?

It is ongoing. He hasn't sat in the bath in 6 or so months (16 months now).... we adapted. We got him used to "splashing" and bathing involves throwing soapy water at him and letting him play. It works. Not sure that makes you feel any better though.
Edit: he enjoys it so it works for me. He can do a 20 minute standing "bath" and end up clean so I don't mind.

No help here...this started at 7 months for us and is still going at 11.5...bath time is no fun anymore and I usually keep it to 5 min. He cries bc I don't let him stand, or ill let him stand while holding him and then he'll try to climb out!

Same exact problem here at 12 months. The only way that I can keep her occupied for a few minutes is with lots of toys. Baths are much much shorter than they used to be and not very much fun

E went through a phase of this when he first started pulling up. It lasted a few weeks, but now he sits most of the time and plays with toys. Does she have toys in the tub to distract her?
I tried not to make a big deal about it. Made sure there was a mat down, and my hands were still sort of hovering around him. I found that he really prefers being put into an almost empty tub and letting it fill up (as opposed to being placed in an already filled tub)...he likes to try to "catch" the water from the faucet.
He still stands sometimes, but he sits much more. Our big problem now is that he can launch himself OUT of the tub.

@lovehoneybee: I use a laundry basket to keep her from crawling, dipping her face, and doing log rolls in the tub (she is crazy) & I put a gazillion toys in there. I even bought her some new toys yesterday in an attempt to distract her. No luck. She has a .5 second attention span.

Yup - this is us - its so frustrating!! But it has gotten better, he stands less as long as he has enough bath toys! We also got a non slip mat that goes on the bottom of the tub that helps.

R isn't standing up yet but she keeps trying to pull up. So far we say No no and she looks at us like we are crazy but then she moves onto something else. I have a feeling once she can stand it won't be that easy.

@photojane: Yeah, until he got more stable I kept him in the infant tub so he wouldn't have as far to fall... and caught him more than a few times. He hardly falls anymore if that helps.
I give him sieves and yogurt cups for scooping and pouring.

@photojane: Lol, E totally does all of that too! And little dude actually pulled up for the first time in the tub! I just try to roll with it. I sit on the floor next to the tub and usually have my arms on the side so I can grab him if need be, but he's usually fine. Once he slipped off of the mat and bit his tongue enough to bleed and nearly gave me a heart attack, but that was just after he started cruising, and hasn't had a slip since.

@photojane: I think that was a big part of it for us...when I try to get him to do something (or not do something) he immediately wants to do the opposite. So I gave in and let him do what he wanted, while trying to make it as safe as I could, and eventually he just wanted to sit and play. He does still stand sometimes, but usually when he's getting his toys down or putting them back on the shelf or when he wants to get out.

Yep! I think this is pretty typical from talking to other moms. My daughter still really likes to stand in the tub at 18 months, but at least now she's more willing to sit down when I ask her to. I don't really get it... doesn't she want to stay warm? The air is so cold! I think the easiest thing is to stop fighting it, and just let them do their thing. The phase has to pass eventually, right?

Our girlie has figured out we can't rinse her hair if she is standing and hanging her head over the edge......what a fun game that is!!!
There isn't much I am in a rush for in terms of change with her as it all goes so fast.....but this.....is something I cannot wait for change with!!

E started standing at 7ish months and he's been standing in the bathtub since (currently almost 12 months). If I fight it he just thrashes and throws a fit and I feel like that's almost more dangerous than him standing. So we have a mat down and I always kneel next to the tub and watch him like a hawk. He's very sturdy but he does still occasionally tumble.

R has been doing this for a week or two, and we just roll with it. she falls and splashes down and gets right back up!

We've had some luck teaching "sit" (like a dog!). When he stands, we say, "SIT!" and make him sit, and then we go crazy praising him for sitting. Hoping the positive reinforcement will do the trick but he still wants to stand a lot!

@photojane: I don't know if it's an option for you, but I get in the tub with my LO (I am usually half dressed). That way, I can keep one hand on her at all times while she sits/stands/sits/stands/sits/stands . . .
