Maybe? It's smack during bedtime! And we don't have a DVR. But I will try to catch snatches.

The applause breaks kill me, so I prefer to just read it afterward.

Listening while trying to occupy LO and cook dinner. It's only 6pm here though.

I'm most interested in childcare information and paid parental leave.
Eta: Is the proposed 7 days sick leave and weeks for FEDERAL workers the only change? As a self-employed mother (who contributes equally to our joint income), I was hoping to hear a bit more about ideas for supporting parents during parental leave after birth or adoption.

1st the superficial: FLOTUS looks great; POTUS, Biden and Boehner are wearing color coordinated ties.
2nd the speech: I'm half listening while doing some work. Middle class economics equals more tax savings! Save on childcare! Paid sick leave and mat leave! Is the White House reading HB?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm obsessed with Michelle Obama's outfit. And I was thinking the same thing--does Obama have a HB account??

Loved the first part of it. I think it was exactly what he needed to say.

@FliegepilzHut: I just hope they really do it. We each took 5 weeks (unpaid) and I took an additional 4 weeks, and it was tough. Having even just a little cushion would have been amazing. It's time to catch up with the rest of the world.

We are watching it over here. The president has always been able to give a compelling speech, but he seems extra polished tonight.

I've been watching but I had to stop because Im about to fall asleep (not from SOTU but because I'm usually asleep by 9pm )! But I'm really pleased. The president has definitely got me intrigued. I just hope we see action!

@littlejoy: I agree it's time to catch up with the rest of the world, but there's nothing Obama can change on his own, especially with no support from congress. Unfortunately, paid leave of any sort is an "entitlement" program, and we know how the votes stack on those.

I love the ideas of paid sick leave, paid maternity leave, lowering the cost of childcare, and free community college, but most of them will probably not pass in Congress.

So did you guys see the part about repealing the 529 tax benefits? Seems really off? I didn't watch but my dad is hecka fired up over it.
