Based on what I've read about hardcore potty-training, it seems as though one is chained to the house until it's done.

We did three days at home with DD; if we absolultely HAD to go somewhere (which happened once), one person went out and the other stayed home with DD. We specifically planned our potty training for a time when both of us were off work and would be home for 7 days in a row, and then we prepared ahead of time (grocery shopping, errands, etc...) so we wouldn't need to leave. We did let DD run around in the backyard, and since it was December, we actually put pants on her. No pull-ups or underwear, just snow pants.

I think I stayed home for about 3 days to make sure he got the idea down. Then when we went out I did put on pull-ups just in case. And I stopped using pull-ups until he was able to come home with it dry consecutive days in a row. I did use pull-ups for a little bit when we were on longer car trips (30+ minutes) but have since stopped and now I just make sure he goes to the potty right before we get into the car. I make it a rule now. Even if he says he doesn't need to I ask him to try. Most times he goes.

Good luck with potty training! My only advice is not to force it.

We didn't leave for three days. And for the next week or so we had very limited outtings.
