How? We tried sleep training (ferber) last night to fall asleep, and after about 30 minutes with checks he fell asleep... only to wake up 30 minutes later. And on and on like that all night.
What do you do in that situation?

Sleep training is so hard. My baby cried a lot the first round of sleep training. When I was training to fall asleep, I started with naps. I would change her diaper, and leave her in her crib during nap time. I would let her cry for about 15-20 mins and if she was still not sleeping, I would bounce her to sleep. One day she started falling asleep on her own, and when she fell asleep on her own for a lot of her naps, I tried it at night and it worked. I did extinction. No checks. Now, she will still cry sometimes, but it'll only last for a couple mins. Her sleep is now crap though at 4 months. She falls asleep on her own, but won't stay asleep long.

Once our guy learned how to fall asleep on his own, he slept for longer periods. But in your situation, I'd set a time limit not only on the checks but on the total time before feeding. So you might put him down at 6, do CIO with checks for 40 minutes until he falls asleep. If he's back away at 7:30 you repeat checks until he falls asleep, then maybe at 10 pick up to feed?
Are there any issues that could be causing the 30 minute wake up? Is the room dark enough, sound machine, right temp? That sounds really frustrating but hopefully it's temporary. The key is just to pick a plan and be super consistent!

It's so tough. For us, we sleep trained for all wakeups before midnight I think. It was hard, but after maybe 3-4 days, she could fall asleep and stay asleep until 1 or 2 in the morning.

@Little Misters Mom: his room is totally pimped out for baby sleep! I learned from my first terrible sleeper...
@Mrs. Oatmeal: I like the sound of your plan!
I think the big difficulty is that he decided he hated the swaddle and so we're having to do this while swaddle weaning. Or something. Who knows
