My older daughter had a large one on her chest… I will PM you pictures. Our doctor said it would fade totally by age 5, before her second birthday it had shrunk considerably. She had a smaller one on her for head about the size of a pencil eraser that disappeared completely before she was two.

I had one on my forehead that was a triangle about the size of a pencil eraser, at its largest according to photos at around 6 months, and it was gone before I turned 18 months.

My LO had one on her side that started as four red dots fairly close together when she was a few weeks old and by the time she was 6 weeks old the dots had connected into what looked like a wide heart--it was definitely diagnosed as a strawberry hemangioma. It grew a bit more, but then stayed the same for many months. It started to fade when she was about 10 months and was gone by the time she was 13 months. Now at 14 months you can just barely see where it used to be--it's colorless now but the tissue is still slightly raised. I'm sure it'll be gone entirely in a few months. There is no trace whatsoever of mine on my forehead.

I think they're cute and special!

DD has (had) 3 hemangiomas that we know of (one is internal, so there is a chance she has more). She's a female twin, which increases her chances of having them, and my DH and his grandmother had one as well. She was born with one fully developed on her toe, which was a darker purple and involuted by the time she was 10 months. The internal hemangioma became noticeable just under her jawline around 4 months old and is quite large, but not red. It's softening some but hasn't started getting noticeably smaller at 17 months. The one on the top of her head is a more classic red strawberry hemangioma. It showed up around 10 days and grew a little, but it's still small and mostly covered with hair now so not very noticeable. At 17 months it's started to get paler which can precede the involution. Our ped took a "wait and see" approach with us, since none of her hemangiomas were on the midline, and they weren't anywhere uncomfortable (i.e. if she'd had one near her eye or mouth we may have taken a more aggressive approach). According to our dr, the nature of hemangiomas is to grow until one year, then they begin to involute. Many are gone by the age of three, and I think something like 90% are gone by ten. My husband's was small and was completely gone by the time he was 4. We occasionally get insensitive comments since DD's hemangiomas are visible (is your baby's head bleeding?? What's that bump on her neck? Does she have mumps?), but ultimately her hemangiomas are only aesthetic which we are grateful for (when her neck one popped up she went through a terrible weekend of testing and words like mass growth and leukemia came up, so we are just relieved she's healthy!!!)

@hilsy85: DD had an internal monitor during labor, and a vacuum delivery, so her head was sort of a mess of red marks and scabs at birth. I actually thought the hemangioma was just irritation from that at first, but then it sort of bubbled up. By the time the skin was healed from her birth, the hemangioma was pretty much noticeably there.

My second has one on her rib cage - it's about the size of two quarters. It appeared within her first week and got bigger until about 4weeks. Since about 4 months it's been softening and fading but it's still very noticeable at 9 months.
