Are these necessary for the winter? I live in the Chicago suburbs so my son doesn't spend a ton of time in the stroller but it sounds like it might be useful going to/from the car in certain situations. Swaddle Designs is having 33% off on their entire site- I figure this is a good time to get one if I need it!

It was still cold here when C was born in April and we just tucked a fluffy baby blanket over her in the carseat. I don't see the point in anything else, really.

do you mean footmuffs or an actual blanket? for us a footmuff is an absolute necessity, but the stroller is our car!

I mean technically they are just regular blankets I guess. If we were still living in the city, I would definitely do the muff but I don't know if we would get enough use out of it. We mostly only use the stroller for day care, the mall, etc.

Totally agree with @Mrs. Bee and @Looch. I did the loose blanket thinking I didn't need to get anything special. But the blanket slides, moves, falls off and gets stuck in things (like wheels.) Totally a worth while investment if you are going to be out in the cold frequently.

@dookie32: I def would not pay that price for what you listed! You can just use regular fleece blankets if a muff is not necessary for you. I'm pondering getting a muff for walks but only if I can find it really cheap.

I think you'd be surprised at how much use you will get out of a lightweight muff. JJCole makes several different weights, the top layer just zips off so if it gets too warm, you don't need to use it.
I have two stroller blankets, both gifts, never used them in the stroller, now that I think about it.

lol!!We received many blankets. Cobi was born in February and we just tucked a warm blanket around him, but we weren't walking in the cold often.
Perhaps if I lived somewhere where I walk everywhere I would look into the muff like pp's suggested but I have many blankets I see no need to purchase a designated stroller blanket.
If you don't have any blankets, I know you could get a way cheaper one. On etsy stroller blankets are as little as $25 and customizable, or pottery barn kids sells a lovely chamois or Sherpa blanket for $30.

@Coco Bee: Haha yeah maybe. You make a good point- I could probably just go to TJ Maxx and get a nice warm blanket and call it a day. The shopper in me sees 33% off and feels like I have to buy something :).
@looch- I didn't know there were different weights of the JJ Cole ones. I'll have to look into that. I'm so annoyed that I opened up the BundleMe that I got for the carseat right after my shower. Ended up being a ridiculously warm spring and I never used it once! I could have just taken it back if I never took all the tags off :(.

@dookie32: Yup, and sometimes, you can even find them at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, if you're not picky about the color.
We use the Urban weight one because it has a water resistant covering. Perfect when you get caught in a drizzle and it's warm enough for the mountain winters.

@Coco Bee: I had an infant jj cole one that both kids used, and I have a heavy duty 7am enfant one. They're pricey but I bought it used, and got us through a super cold winter with Charlie. Now olive will use it.

@Mrs. Bee: did you have the jj cole urban or arctic? We just got the arctic toddler one and I am now debating if I should return it for the 7am enfant 212 one (that grows with the kid from infant to toddler and on).

@hilsy85: i just had the basic infant one from jjcole. i'm not sure how thick the arctic one from jj cole is -- i have seen them on the street. but the 7am is thicker. super, duper duper warm!

@hilsy85: we were out and about a lot in the winter when charlie was around 1. it was cooooooold outside and our stroller bag kept him so nice and toasty. but the winter was uncharacteristically mild last year (only had a little bit of snow once), so we didn't even use it at all!
I would definitely wait to buy it since it's huge and pricey!
lol!!
It did look super warm in the store.
