I'm in boston and did lots of walks in the cold. We have a bundle me for the stroller and it does the trick. On super cold days sometimes I either layer an extra blanket under it, or put the rain shield over everything which kept her face warm and protected too. Plus I had her facing me for a long time which also protected from the wind.

I had both the infant size one that I used with the car seat when it was in the stroller, and the bigger toddler size for the toddler seat. Both were hand me downs, but the toddler one would have worked from the beginning.

I have the 7am Enfant one and the UB ganoosh. Ganoosh is thin and we only use it for fall and spring. The 7am Enfant one is expensive but eventually went on sale on Diapers.com. It's honestly been fantastic. Very thick and if we are just going point A to point B, I don't even need to put a coat on him. Obviously if we're going to be playing outside or he'll be walking he'll have one!
I live in NYC (cold, not Ontario cold) and I do walk a lot.
I'm thinking that if you mostly drive and don't plan on "strolling", you probably won't even use the UBV. You'll just carry the baby to the car (in the infant seat at first, then just in your arms once in a convertible seat). So probably not worth it. It's definitely something you can wait and see on!

@Foodnerd81: I need to go check them out! I tend to wait too long on these things.. like until its snowing!

Oh and good point about the wind cover, I use that thing constantly too! He's basically in a fleece-y, snuggly bubble while I shove him through snow banks. #jealous

I had a winter baby in the Alps, he was fine with the generic JJ Cole one (whenever we arrived at our destination, he had warm hand and feet).

I used the mid-level one, I think it was the Urban, but they also had the Arctic level one, which I can't tell if it has been discontinued or not.

@Reese: as I think about it more, for your needs I would get the rain cover to shield icy winds/snow and use blankets. I think that would be perfectly fine!

We plan to just use a toddler bundle-me and add blankets and wind shield if needed. There is no way we'd be in the stroller for an extended period of time outside during the winter anyway!

@oliviaoblivia: @Reese: i am guessing by rumble seat, you mean the actual seat the stroller comes with, and not the infant/car seat that you can click in as well. I don't think you bought a second seat already as they are typically used to make it a double stroller (and that is what actually called the rumble seat).

As for keeping warm, i never got one of those stroller covers/bundle me's. We used mostly blankets. One in particular that knitted from wool i think and was really big worked amazing. LO would sweat sometimes so i would actually loosen it to let air in. (And btw, winters here are a *bit* of a joke compared to Montreal

Can you find one lined in sheep skin? They are pretty popular around here in the winter, although our climate definitely isn't as cold as Canada. A popular brand that I've seen here is Kaiser.
