Argh! My home button has decided to stop working today despite me cleaning it & re-calibrating! It started working again earlier, but is not back to being unresponsive! Blegh, I need an upgrade!

@pui: About 1.5 years.... it was the replacement they gave me when I shattered my screen on the last one so definitely out of apple care. ugh! I just need to get the upgrade but can't swing it at the moment (unless I want to "downgrade" to a lower gb capacity). boo!

You can find some work-around fixes that will help until you can upgrade. I think most/all of them require you to jailbreak your phone though. Not sure if this is an option.
I know my sister has a phone with a broken home button and she downloaded an app that puts a little floating button on the screen that takes her 'home'. There are others where you can assign a volume button or a screen gesture (swipe down to up, etc) as a home button function.

That used to happen on all my phones! Turned out I was pressing the button too hard...
Hope you find a fix!!

@mrbee: Sorry, I totally get the frustration but that made me lol!
DH showed me that I could turn on the AssistiveTouch feature so even if the home button decides to stop working I can navigate the phone. Definitely works for now until I can get my upgrade!

@runsyellowlites: I dropped my phone and the case was actually prying apart the phone so my home button wasn't working. I was using the assistive touch for almost a week until I was looking at my phone and saw that it was wider on the ends. I squeezed my phone and boom, my home screen started working.

I've been using the AssistiveTouch button for about a year now =/ I can't even tell you how many people have asked me what the floating blob is on my screen! I have to use it for my power button now since that decided to stop working a couple of months ago. Awesome.

I had the same problem with mine. I finally took it into the Apple store and was told it was a known issue and they replaced my phone. Might be worth a try!

@emg86: If I had an Apple store within 100 miles I totally would.... they did already replace my last one though so I may have alreayd used up my free replacement! lol

@emg86: Really?! I should try that. My power button breaking was my final straw. I don't even listen to music on my phone so, as far as I'm concerned, I'm using the phone less than their intended user! There's no reason it should've stopped working. (Clearly I'm a bit agitated about this!)

@LindsayInNY: They were super nice when I shattered my screen! Especially if you have Apple Care!
Of course once I activated the "blob" my home button has been working fine. pfft!

@LindsayInNY: You should definitely try! They made sure it wasn't a software issue and then gave me a brand new phone. I think mine was almost 2 years old at that point.

@runsyellowlites: I don't have Apple Care =/
@emg86: The power button on mine went right around the 2 year mark (I have an iPhone 4). The online chat person I spoke with said it was a hardware issue and basically offered me a refurbished phone that I could purchase. My cell contract is up for renewal and upgrade so there's no point in purchasing anything through Apple since I can get it cheaper through my cell company at this point.
