We've got a 12 hour road trip coming up (there and back, 24 + hours total) and we need some entertainment! It's just DH and I, we like to listen to books on tape, but I don't know of any we would both enjoy.
Things we have liked in the past are the Harry Potter books on tape and comedian CD's. The car has XM, but my subscription lapsed and we don't use it enough to renew.
Suggestions?

@Keybee: My husband always loves those action type books (David Baldacci is his favorite), and we usually get those to listen to in the car. They aren't my type of book for my own pleasure reading, but somehow in the car I get into them, too.

in the past we have listened to podcasts or comedy or music. i used to listen to books when i had a long commute but i never thought to try out a book when DH and i are driving. i may have to steal that idea for an upcoming trip!

do you guys have similar music tastes? setting a pandora radio station is usually what we do, nice to find new music that way too.

Serial is a great suggestion, and you'll want to download all of them.
Maybe look for some non-fiction books too. DH and I will often pause and discuss, which makes the trip go by that much faster like Freakonomics, Super Freakonomics.

Unbroken is the best audio book!! I also like this American life, on being, and serial was great too for podcasts.

I like the Dear Sugar Radio podcast, it's an advice column. Also David Sedaris books are wonderful on tape and my husband and I enjoyed Dad is Fat on tape by Jim Gaffigan on and Yes Please by Amy Poehler.
