Has anyone found a wide brimmed sun hat that actually stays on little heads? I have one from Target with straps that velcro, but the velcro is so loose that it comes apart as soon as she pulls on it. I created a monster by playing games inside where I put something on my head or her head and let it fall-- now she thinks everything that is placed on her head is to be taken off immediately. Oops.

We have this one, and it's super cute on. It tightens in the back & ties under the chin.

I like elasticized ones! Then there's nothing under their chin to annoy them.

@jedeve: does the brim flop in your Los eyes? I saw a girl wearing that one yesterday but it was in her face an she wasn't happy.
@illumina: I mean, it's just a guess, but she is obsessed with peekaboo and "where's your (insert any object he can get her hands on)?" So it makes sense that se would think, haha mom put this on my head. Where's my hat? Here it is!

If the hat is dry it does not flop in her face, if it gets wet it can but I just fold it up. LO has learned that if she wants to play outside/ in the pool the hat has to stay on, she use to throw a fit and tear it off but she learned pretty quick.

My mom sewed elastic in some hats from the swim set Costco had for a while, and they work beautifully! The elastic is just long enough that it's not tight on their necks, but if they pull their hat even a bit, then it holds the hat on.

@pinkb: we did the same thing last summer (when DS was 12-18 months). If he took his hat off we came inside, it only took a few meltdowns for him to learn
We haven't had any issues since!

Urban baby bonnets! They are pricey but they snap on and stay on, have a wide adjustable brim, are reversible, so it's like two hats in one, and are made in the USA! We have these:

I have several i play styles, but like the one photojane posted the best, fit-wise. It stays on well, because of the elastic + chin tie, and the brim is stiffer than the wide-brim floppy style they have. The neck flap provides great sun coverage, too.
I personally don't think they're the cutest hats in the world, but so practical! So he wears them anyway.

@allison: it does seem like that type would stay on the best... But I have a girl! Sun hats are so cute (when they are on).
@Mrsjets: @pinkb: the problem with that is sometimes we are out when she doesn't get to play- like when I'm wearing her in the carrier while we walk the dog. How old were your LOs when they figured it out (that no hat=no outside fun)?
@meganmp: I'm thinking if sewing somethin into the ones without straps to see if that helps before buying another one.

@Foodnerd81: we have one from Carter's- it has the Velcro band, but it's the flatter kind of Velcro- it's a real struggle to undo it just by pulling. It is the ONLY hat LO will keep on.

I second the Sunday Afternoon hat mentioned above. The strap is adjustable and hooks with a plastic thing. The front is a little stiff so it doesn't flop in his face, and the size is adjustable with a cord. We get so many compliments and he likes wearing it.

@Foodnerd81: the flap can be flipped up-it took a while to get LO to leave it on, but we figured out a game-we put it on our heads, then he wants to pull it off and wear it himself! -
@Foodnerd81: Sadie's a girl too! All of the i play hats are gender neutral, and come in a bunch of colors. We have lavender. I don't like the floppy brimmed hats... they're always falling in the baby's eyes.
We haven't had any issues since!
