Hellobee Boards

I will be completely honest that about 6 months into our marriage we found out we were pregnant. We both 100% were sure we wanted a family and I thought I was ready and had started asking him when he would be ready. Realistically, if we had planned things out, it probably would have been 2 years into our marriage before we tried to start a family. I had finished college, we owned a home, and had decent jobs.

When we found out, we both took the news in our own way. I was happy at first and after a few weeks started freaking out, while he freaked out right away and after a few weeks started to get excited.

In the end, the saying really is true that you are never going to be 100% ready for a baby. Its a huge lifestyle change no matter what.

I agree. DH & I weren't married or even living in the same state when we found out about DD. We'd been dating for all of 6 months. Now, I know that these stories don't necessarily have happy endings, but we are fortunate that everything worked out and I can't imagine my life any other way.
The majority of stories on here are traditional path: dating, marriage, then babies and I sometimes hesitate to comment because I think I'm in the minority.

I think it would be great to hear from all kinds of mothers and fathers, single, divorced, with step families, etc. Right now, it kind of seems like all the bloggers are following the same mold, which makes the blog kind of uninteresting (at least for me, right now).

Hey guys... please remember that our bloggers are real life people too! Think of how it must sting to read that someone finds you "kind of uninteresting." Ouch!

@looch: @elgato: I bet as the site gets more viewers and more people start reading the blog/chat boards, we'll see more and more people from different situations. With Hellobee being so young, I think it's still in it's early stages where a lot of first or second time parents are coming over from Weddingbee to join in the fun.

Weddingbee is actually a good example of a site that has grown as it found more readers. They have a wide range of diverse bloggers on that site that has probably grown as their site has grown. That site has been around longer and has attracted a more diverse crowd along the way. I bet the same thing will happen with Hellobee.

@elgato: I love that you spoke up about this and even though I'm not in that situation, I would love to hear your story, especially how you handled everything when you found out! Even if you didn't want to become a full-time blogger, I think it would be great to have you or any other blogger in that situation maybe do a special series on the topic.

I am not exactly in a surprise situation where we weren't trying. In fact we tried for awhile then choose adoption. I accepted not having biological children and loved bringing our first son into our lives through adoption. When he was two months old I found out I was pregnant. I was excited at first the same way thehistoryofus described but then I would have some oh my god moments where I thought this is going to be crazy. At my first ultrasound I found out they were twins and promptly freaked out right there in the office. My son would be nine months when our surprise twins would be born. I should tell you I had a lot of what am I doing moments. I also remember thinking what have I done? I had many more ups and downs than my husband. I think some of it is hormonal, some is just differences between men and woman and I think a big difference is that the baby is in you. A woman is constantly thinking or reminded of the child she is carrying. When I was pregnant ever little thing reminded me of the children I would be bringing into this world. Every time I was nauseous or when my clothes wouldn't fit, or farther along the flutters, kicks and hiccups I could feel would bring it back to the front of my mind.

When we were having our fourth (she was planned) my husband went with me to one of my last appointments. They did a quick ultra sound and then we scheduled a date for my c section. In the car my husband said "wow this is really starting to feel real". I'm sure I looked at him with daggers in my eyes. At 37 weeks pregnant, with a giant belly, and and aerobic acrobat performing in my gut(she even bruised my ribs) it was getting real for him. He said "I know honey you are the one carrying her and it's already real for you but just remember my prospective, you have known her for nine months but I am still waiting to meet her"

So just remember you do deserve your pregnancy. You also are allowed to have whatever emotional journey you may experience during your pregnancy, and so does your husband. A child will change your lives and add some stress, and test you and your husband but coming from a mother of four let me tell you it's worth it.

I am 5wks and 2 days today. My husband and I were planning to start TTC towards the end of the year but had a slip up on a three day weekend in April. Surprise! We are due in January. While we couldn't be more excited i'm still overwhelmed with all kinds of different thoughts. Some of them being totally selfish but then I just remember that little sweet pea growing inside of me. I came over from weddingbee so i'm super excited to get acquainted with people here and hear some of those surprise stories!

I too think that would make the blog more interesting. It's not that the current bloggers are uninteresting, just in the sense that it's a little uniform!

My first pregnancy was most certainly a surprise one, I got pregnant from my first time ever having sex at the age of 14. Thankfully he truly was the love of my life and now we are married and having our second child that was 100% planned!

Well keep in mind that this site is still new: it will take awhile to attract a crowd of diverse bloggers. I'm sure they will come. I do actually find the current bloggers very interesting, because they are so very different from me! Ha, normal is interesting to people with unusual lives.
That said, I'm really looking forward to hopefully becoming a blogger. I think my lifestyle would be interesting for people to read because it's... weird. Plus I just really love to write.
